We (John & Rachael) founded Korcula Explorer to share our love of the beautiful Croatian Island of Korcula. We've seen a lot of weather this year.

Tons of sun, a fair amount of rain (even including some localised flooding), thunderstorms, rainbows, strong winds, cloudy skies and even a sea tornado! I'm just waiting for some snow...which probably isn't that likely, but you never know!

Another huge highlight of the year, of course, is all the fantastic local produce and wine tours we ran.

We met so many awesome people. Pedalled many kilometres, with plenty of encouragement to get people to the end! Sipped delicious wine and nibbled on tasty bites. Ate a lot of pancakes! Another epic tour season!

Korcula Diary Entry...

So we did get some rain! It was actually a full day of rain with lots of wind. But then, thankfully, it returned to the sun, although the temperature is now cooler.

We took a lovely stroll up to the Fort above Korcula Town and around the Old Town.

Cabbage!

This epic cabbage grows everywhere. Sometimes it almost looks like little trees, like the ones here.

I'm not a big fan of the cabbage smell that can linger in the air after the rain! But it's a nostalgic reminder of my Nan's house on a Sunday afternoon. She'd start cooking the cabbage in the morning, to be ready for lunch! 🤣

Bike riding from Korcula to Lumbarda along Donje Blato, stopping for cake and coffee at Skatula Cafe, before looping around Gornje Blato and heading home. The goat was particularly interested in us - usually, she ignores us!

Banja Beach in Korcula Town.

A popular place to swim in the summer for locals and visitors. Only the hardiest souls are still swimming, but there are a brave few!

I enjoy the short coastal walk passing the Liburna Hotel, especially in the glorious Autumn sun.

Have you ever seen a praying mantis look like this?

I think it's a lady...and she was defending herself from a local cat. When they go into defence mode they 'puff themselves' up, raise their arms (into a boxing stance) and make a hissing noise.

John and our little explorer are into their insects, I prefer the fluffy animals! But even I think praying mantis' are cool!

I've always been impressed by people who forage for wild mushrooms - I'd never trust myself to pick the right ones! I'm pretty sure though, that this one is not edible type! But how cool does it look?

During the off-season, when we aren't running our wine and local produce tours, I thought showcasing the island through Autumn, Winter, and Spring would be fun. And give you a little insight into what we do with ourselves. Think of it as a 'life on Korcula' diary entry.

On Sunday we took a family bike ride to Vrbovica, a small bay around 5 km from Korcula Town. Here you'll find a sweet little pebble beach and a small 'shack bar' which opens during the summer months.

This Autumn weather has been incredible. Many days with little amount of cloud and lots of sun. The cold northern wind, the Bura, blew through the night so the temperature has dipped a bit, but still lots of sun. Rain is forecasted next week, so we need to make the most of the sunny weather over the next few days.

In English it is called the 'Strawberry Tree'. Sadly, the fruit doesn't taste anything like strawberries, but at least the wildlife enjoys eating it!

They are beautiful with their bold colours and are currently dotting the island's landscape.

As much as I enjoy being by the sea, I also love the countryside and the inland villages on Korcula.

If you plan on visiting the island make sure you take a trip away from the coastline. There's even more to explore.

We moved to Korcula from the UK in 2010 after falling in love with the island after several previous visits. Over the years we have grown a successful travel company, which we are very proud of. The company has changed with the needs of travellers to Korcula and we love every moment of what we do.
