When Is It Warm Enough to Swim on Korcula?

Korcula’s swimming season traditionally kicks off around May 1st, which is a national holiday in Croatia. However, many locals (me included!) and visitors find the water a bit chilly until later in the month.

By late May, the sea warms up nicely, and it’s perfect for swimming throughout the summer. The average sea temperature from June to September ranges from 22 to 25°C (72–77°F), and you can comfortably swim well into September and even October.

Are you in the middle of planning your holiday to Croatia? If you’re planning to visit during the peak months of July and August, I recommend booking your accommodation soon. Demand is high, and securing your spot early means better options and value.

Don’t be put off by the colour! Black risotto is a traditional dish in Dalmatia.

Black risotto gets its hue and unique flavour from cuttlefish with pieces of seafood mixed into the creamy rice.

My recommendation is to get one to share as the dish is very rich.

Located near the small village of Pupnat, Bacva Bay is a hidden gem with enchanting waters.

🔝This is one of the best beaches on Korcula Island (in our opinion!).

What to Expect: Bacva Bay boasts crystal-clear turquoise waters, perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The pebbles are smooth enough to lie on, and a few sun loungers are available for hire from the local restaurant.

Korcula is a walker’s paradise, offering a variety of scenic trails for all fitness levels.

Whether it’s a coastal walk or a hike through the island’s vineyards, the unspoiled nature and breathtaking views will leave you mesmerised.

One of our favourites is the trail to the nature park of Kocje in Zrnovo, where you’ll find fascinating rock formations and maybe a fairy!

Where can you swim on Korcula?

In short—anywhere you see the sea! The water clarity around Korcula is exceptional, making nearly every bay and beach a great place to take a dip.

The island’s most stunning beaches (in our opinion) are more remote and reachable by driven transport only or for the active traveller, by bike.

The most popular beaches and those located close to the centre of a town or village can be reached by public transport and foot, such as the sandy beaches in Lumbarda or Vaja in the village of Racisce.

The bus route connects the main towns & villages on the island and the full timetables can be seen on the Arriva website.

🌅 Hello 2025!

Another year of adventures has flown by, and we’re so excited for what’s ahead!

We're currently enjoying some Winter Fun in Austria, but are equally enjoying returning to Korcula! It's like we get to 'go back' on holiday, after finishing a holiday.

The final highlight of our year was all the other lovely places in Croatia we got to visit including Tucepi, Lastovo Island and Mlini. All wonderful destinations.

Next up on the 2024 highlight list is the blue, blue sea! We didn't get to so many different beaches this year - must be on the plan for 2025; revisit some favourites and explore some new ones.

We've seen a lot of weather this year.

Tons of sun, a fair amount of rain (even including some localised flooding), thunderstorms, rainbows, strong winds, cloudy skies and even a sea tornado! I'm just waiting for some snow...which probably isn't that likely, but you never know!

We enjoyed visiting some of our favourite places and trying some new ones...we ran out of time to visit everywhere we wanted to, so we're counting down to 2024 for more epic food adventures! So earlier in the week we took the smallest explorer up Sveti Ilija mountain for the first time. This is the amazingly impressive mountain in Orebic, facing Korcula. We moved to Korcula from the UK in 2010 after falling in love with the island after several previous visits. Over the years we have grown a successful travel company, which we are very proud of. The company has changed with the needs of travellers to Korcula and we love every moment of what we do.
