The majority of the museums found on Korcula are history/ethnographic based.

In Korcula Town, you can visit the town museum and the Marco Polo Exhibition Centre.

In Vela Luka, you can visit the Culture Centre.

In Blato there is an interesting ethnographic museum in the home of a local family, called Barilo.

This pretty little church sitting in the middle of the vineyards is our 10th stop on the Self Guided Cycling Tour.

The Church of the Holy Cross and the loggia at the front provide residents with a safe haven from a storm or a place of reflection to pray for good wine and harvest.

It goes without saying that it's important to protect the vines and grapes in the vineyards. But the punishment in the past for damaging the vines was quite severe...chopping your right arm off severe!

A law outlined in 1214 stated if passing the vineyards at night during the grape period you had to carry a lighted candle - so you can see where you're going!

Well, there you go. Look after those vines when visiting the vineyards!

Time for a swim during the 9th stop of our Self Guided Cycling Tour.

Przina is the largest of the several sandy beaches to be found in Lumbarda and on the Island as a whole. Due to the natural geology of the island being rocky, this area around Lumbarda is very unique. As many tourists are typically used to sandy beaches it is very busy in the summer.

One of our favourite months of the year has to be September (so we are counting down the days to go!).

The weather is hot, but not sweltering so. The sea is a perfect temperature having been heated by the sun all summer. There are fewer people around so everything feels a bit calmer. The grape harvest is in full swing. Just a really perfect time to be on Korcula Island!

It’s always nice to bring back a memory from your holiday or pick up a few souvenirs to share with your friends and family when you get home.

Proizd islet, just off the coast from Vela Luka. A little bit of paradise.

You can catch a taxi boat from Vela Luka and it takes around 30-40 minutes to reach Proizd. There are typically 2-3 boats running a day.

Marvel at the skilful sword dancers performing in the Moreska (Korcula old town), Kumpanija (Blato, Pupnat, Smokvica or Cara) or Mostra in Zrnovo.

The Moreska is performed in Korcula Town every Thursday in June & September and every Monday and Thursday in July & August.

For a small island, Korcula is the birthplace of many well-acclaimed Croatians. The famous musician Oliver Dragojević was from Vela Luka, Petar Segedin, a writer, was from Zrnovo and Lumbarda was the birthplace of the sculptor Frano Kršinić. It’s also said that Marco Polo is from Korcula, but that’s a whole other story!

For the 7th stop on our Self Guided Cycling Tour, you will visit one of Frano Kršinić’s works, a memorial to the fallen soldiers during World War Two.

Our Self Guided tour is full of little snippets of facts and is a fun way to see and learn more about the beautiful Island of Korcula.

There is only one street in Korcula Old Town without steps, locally known as the Street of Thinkers. You can wander the alleyway lost in your thoughts without having to walk up or down steps.

The 5th stop on our self guided cycling tour to Lumbarda is Javic.

The village of Lumbarda is made up of several smaller hamlets. One of the quaintest and oldest is called Javic. You’ll take a short loop through part of this hamlet and at some point you should find the church on a small hill to your right.

The sound of summer...cicadas! They are deafening at the moment. You are always hear them but rarely see them, but we spotted this noisy little fellow! Post summer it seems so quiet without them!
