alled ‘Narona’, go on a photo safari on the river Norin, enjoy the local fish freshly grilled on coals, either in the nearby restaurants or outdoors, then you should come to the Family Ćelić household in Podrujnica by the river Norin, which runs into the Neretva. The source of the Norin river supplies the peninsula of Pelješac, the Neretva basin, and the islands of Korčula and Lastovo with fresh water. Around 2000 years ago the antique town of Narona was here. It had sunk under water, the area now being covered by marshlands surrounded with three ornithological reservations, cut through by the river Norin. It is by the river that we can reach the Narona museum which has been built on an archaeological site,treasuring antique statues which had been discovered under a village stable. This is one of the most prominent modern museums with the artefacts found locally. In the ancient times the iris flower was cultivated around the Norin river, which was used for the manufacture of the most valued perfume in the whole antique world. The river Norin is known by the fact that each family has its own spot for placing fish nets on heavy poles called ‘Tratuns’. Also, each family has its own manually dug rivulets, called ‘Jarugas’.Tratuns and Jarugas serve for eel fishing, but only the female eel, because this fish comes to our river from the Sargasso Sea and waits until it is ready for mating. When it reaches sexual maturity, it swims back all to way to the Sargasso Sea to meet with the males. The little eels repeat the long swim and come back to our small river.
‘Trupa’is the traditional boat that the locals find easy to navigate, while for the tourists and foreigners it is a sweet torture. The function of the ‘Trupica’boat was to transport people across the river, facilitate fishing, carry the reeds that have to this day been used for making organic gazebos, sunshades, etc. Paddle surf can be hired anywhere in the world, but ‘Trupica’ and‘ Lađa’ can be ridden and rented only in our household. Learning how to manipulate these boats you get an unforgettable new experience,and also win a signed diploma for mastering this local art. The resting area where we take you by the ‘Trupa’or‘Lađa’is great for outdoor sports, such as volleyball, swimming in the river, the local game ‘Norinska alka from a wheelbarrow’, bird watching, seeing the local amphibians, enjoying the local food, grilled fish....
