Marless - Interreg IT-HR MARLESS implements actions focused on the phenomenon of ML from different points of view and methods of intervention. AUTONOMOUS REGION FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA
3.

Therefore, it puts into effect actions of monitoring, management, prevention, removal of the ML and proposes experimental actitions. ABOUT THE PROJECT

The MARLESS project intends to tackle the problem of Marine Litter in the Adriatic Seafrom many fronts in order to obtain visible and concrete results. The project addresses the problem in a holistic way and develops different actions aimed at att

acking the problem on all fronts. The general objective of the project is to implement concrete and joint interventions that allow addressing the phenomenon of Marine Litter (ML) from different points of view and methods of intervention. The project therefore puts into effect concrete actions of monitoring, management, prevention and removal of the ML without neglecting the normative aspect within which these actions are framed. Finally, it proposes innovative and experimental actions aimed at treating plastic waste in a circular economy perspective. Specific objectives:
• Strengthening of currently implemented actions
• Involvement of different categories of citizens in concrete and temporally sustainable actions
• Experimentation of innovative solutions

The project is divided into multiple actions:
• Monitoring actions aimed at comparing the partners on the methodologies used in the Marine Strategy on their own territories and at implementing a profitable mix of good practices as well as enhancing the actions already implemented.
• Governace and raising awareness actions aimed at carrying forward citizen engagement interventions both in schools, in the tourism sector and in a more holistic and integrated perspective of the Costal Contract.
• Integrated regulatory management actions aimed at identifying the nodes where the application of different regulations intersects and causes bottlenecks that hinder the effectiveness of the interventions.
• Pilot actions which aim to test experimental actions whose outcomes will then be collected in toolboxes for the benefit of all partners who can then transfer them to their own territories.
• Disseminatio actions. LEAD PARTNER:

ARPAV realized a 3D video aiming to represent the impact of the Marine Litter on the environment and show to the general public how they can actively change their behaviour.
The main idea driving this project was: Can a correct waste management improve the Marine Litter issue?

Starting from this state, the ARPAV team together with the professional moviemaker, started to planned the different scene and the text description. The team decided to start with a common
scene in an urban environment: a lunch break of two students drinking a bottle of water close to a
water basin. From that point the users can actively choose which of the two protagonists follow.

Of course, the two choices are linked to different results:
• The “bad choice” will results in the dumping of the water bottle in the environment and from that moment the users will follow the route of the waste trough rivers, sea water discharge, the sea and the impact to the environment.
• The “good choice” will results in a correct dumping of the water bottle and from that point the user will follow the path of the recycling plant up to the making of a new water bottle

Both the paths are described by a voice description and infographic messages that pop out when a focus is needed. The great plus of a 3D video is that the users are totally immerse into the video and can take decisions and be part of the action.

👉Last week, Assessor Fabio Scoccimarro and other representatives of Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia rewarded the beach concessionaries who participated in MARLESS’ activities in Friuli Venezia Giulia with the title of 🏆MARLESS Ambassadors🏆.

⛱Specifically, the beach concessionaries of Castelreggio in Sistiana, Grado GIT- Grado Impianti Turistici, Villaggio Turistico Europa and Residence & Camping Punta Spin, along with Camping Sabbiadoro and Società Doggy Beach di Lignano took part into the monitoring activities of the project which engage the tourist sector🌊.

🤩With their precious contributions, they provided crucial data to analyse the quantity and the composition of the litter left on beaches that threaten our seas.

MARLESS Workshop on planning tool - Cross boundary Marine litter management plan was successfully organized in P**a, 12/06/2023.

One of the project´s goals is to develop a Cross boundary Marine litter management plan (cross-border governance platform for ML, or planning tool), as a non-legally binding and practical document with aim to share understanding among the partners (IT and HR) on how the EU and Barcelona Convention legal requirements should be implemented. This includes the necessity of a common understanding of technical needs, scientific knowledge, and the socio-economic impact of marine litter in the sub-region of the Adriatic Sea.

The main goal of the workshop was to present and discuss the planning tool. The workshop will also be an opportunity to transfer related project results and knowledge gained to the ML authorities (national and regional level) and other interested ML management stakeholders and will contribute to ensuring future planning tool implementation.
