Lynx in Plitvice Lakes National Park 🐾🌳

The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) is one of the strictly protected large carnivores and a symbol of healthy, preserved forests in Plitvice Lakes National Park area. Its presence highlights the park’s rich and untouched wilderness!

Did you know the European Wildcat (Felis silvestris) lives in Plitvice Lakes National Park? It’s a true wild species, distinct from domestic cats with its thick, bushy tail and no black stripe on top. I’ve never seen one in the wild myself, but I’d love to someday! :)

Pictures here are from Slovakia, serving as examples.

A winter fairytale at Majerovo vrilo, one of the largest springs of the enchanting Gacka River ❄️💙💚 Located in the charming village of Sinac, about 10 km southeast of my hometown, Otočac, on the edge of the Gacka karst field, this magical spot is also home to historic old watermills.

Štrbački Buk waterfalls, located in the Una National Park, are one of the most pristine natural wonders along the Una River, which serves as a natural border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia 💚 The beautiful Una River originates in Croatia, flowing briefly through its territory before forming a natural border and then continuing mostly through Bosnia and Herzegovina. Brown bears, for instance, cross from one side to the other freely, as do other wildlife 🐻 Nature and water know no borders; they exist only in the minds of individuals and on political or geographic maps.

In the end, waterways connect us all, and it’s our shared responsibility to protect the Una River, along with all our rivers, lakes, and streams—these precious waters we all share. 💧💦🌳
