Have You visited the Klis fortress?
Klis Fortress is a remarkable example of fortification architecture.
The fortress dates back to the 5th century and has played a significant role throughout various historical periods.
During the Ottoman Wars, Klis became a stronghold of the Uskoks, Croatian fighters who resisted Turkish and Venetians.
However, in 1537, Klis fell to the Ottomans, marking the end of its status as the last free enclave in southern Croatia.
Despite their control over Klis, the Ottomans never managed to capture the nearby city of Split.
Today, Klis Fortress stands as a protected cultural monument, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich past and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
