Karmen’s Apartment One is situated in the heart of Split, in a picturesque old stone house, in a quiet, traffic-free neighborhood Varoš, one of the oldest part of Split, still inhabited as it has
always been, by fishermen and craftsmen. Winding streets, small passages, stairs and entrances at odd locations and houses which seem to grow out of each other are a reflection of the modest, intertwined and genuine Mediterranean-style of life of city proper and its inhabitants. All principal places of interest, including Diocletian’s Palace, seaside promenade Riva, belvedere Vidilica, main shopping street, beaches, the recreational zone in Marjan Forest, as well as the transportation hub are located within walking distance (please see maps). Varoš je veoma slikovit i miran kraj bez prometa, s uskim i vijugavim uličicama, stepeništima, ulazima i prolazima, s malim dvorištima i vrtovima na najneočekivanijim mjestima; još uvijek je naseljen obiteljima ribara, težaka i obrtnika, kao što je to i od samog početka bio, i predstavlja tipično Mediteransko naselje. Sve zanimljive lokacije Splita koje treba vidjeti i posjetiti su dostupne nakon kratke šetnje od 5-10 minuta: centralni renesansni trg s plemićkim palačama, ljetna rezidencija rimskog cara Dioklecijana, glavno šetalište uz more Riva, Vidilica s koje se pruža najljepši pogled na Split, kao i Marmontova ulica (šoping zona), rekreacijsko područje parka/šume Marjan i glavno transportno čvorište, gdje se nalazi trajektna luka, autobusni i željeznički kolodvor, polazište autobusa za aerodrom i taksiji, te sve vrste plovila koja Split povezuju s otocima. Karmen’s Apartment One is completely renovated and contains all contemporary appliances, offering full comfort to guests. The brand new queen-size bed is equipped with a 21 cm (8”) thick mattress made of encased coils, which are enveloped in a comfort layer of flexible polyurethane foam. This mattress is the best choice for our climate, as it offers outstanding air circulation and provides the sleeper with a feeling of a cooler and drier bed. Beds are provided with hand-made linen made in Croatia of finest 100% cotton. All rooms are air-conditioned and, for the cooler hours of the evening, there is a small sitting area in the patio. Even more important for a good night’s sleep, the apartment is equipped with anti-mosquito nets on windows and an electronic mosquito repellent. To create a modern bathroom in a centuries-old stone house was probably the most demanding task of our renovating work, and the one we are proudest of. Now bathroom has a large walk-in shower area and, to us, it feels more like belonging in Manhattan or Tokyo than in Varoš. It is supplied with shampoos and small toiletries, free of charge; each guest receives set of towels in different colors to facilitate use. The kitchen serves people of all levels of culinary inclinations and abilities. It is equipped with ceramic cooking plates, refrigerator, ice-maker, electric water kettle, microwave oven, toaster, sandwich toaster, cookware (pots, pans, knives, etc.) The property receives high quality potable tap water, tested for safe drinking and cooking. The sitting area provides a comfortable sofa-bed, which can be easily converted in a queen-size bed (linens, pillows and covers guest will find in sofa-bed storage box), a flat screen TV with 100+ channels and video on demand and a 21” screen Toshiba laptop. All property is fully covered with free WiFi signal. There are adaptors for international power plugs. For the unlikely case of boredom you will find a selection of international bestsellers. Karmen’s Apartment One je tijekom proljeća 2016. potpuno renoviran, izmijenjene su sve instalacije i izolacije, te sada sadrži sve što je potrebno kako bi gosti imali puni komfor. I namještaj je potpuno nov: u spavaćoj sobi se nalazi veliki krevet s queen-size madracem debljine 21 cm., sačinjenim od džepičastih opruga ovijenih poliuretanskom pjenom, koja osigurava izvrsnu cirkulaciju zraka; oprema za krevet je od najfinijeg pamuka, šivana po narudžbi i mjeri. Sve sobe u apartmanu su klimatizirane, a kada predvečer zahladi, moguće je sjediti i vani u dvorištu. Što je možda i najvažnije za ugodan noćni odmor, svi prostori su zaštićeni mrežicama protiv komaraca, a kao dopunska zaštiti, postavljeni su i elektronički uređaji koji odbijaju insekte. Rekonstrukcija kupaonice je bila, u stoljećima staroj kamenoj kući, zahtjevna zadaća, i veoma smo ponosni s rezultatom. Kupaonica sada ima veoma širok ograđeni prostor za tuširanje, veliki umivaonik ugrađen u crnu mramornu ploču. Gostima su na raspolaganju neograničene količine šampona za kosu i tijelo, te drugih toaletnih sitnica. Setovi ručnika su u različitim bojama, i svaki gost će imati „svoju“ boju, kako bi se olakšala upotreba. Kuhinja je tako opremljena da može poslužiti gostima s najrazličitijim kulinarskim vještinama i inklinacijama. Opremljena je keramičkim grijaćim pločama, velikim sudoperom, frižiderom od 240 l. s malim zamrzivačem, ledomatom s kapacitetom od 12 l. leda, grijačem za vodu od dva litra., mikrovalnom pećnicom, klasičnim i sendvič tosterom, te osnovnom opremom potrebnom za kuhanje. Blagovaonica raspolaže s posuđem i priborom za jelo za šest osoba. U kuhinji, kao i u kupaonici, je tekuća voda veoma dobre kvalitete, koja se može upotrebljavati i za piće i za kuhanje. U dnevnom boravku je trosjed, koji je lako moguće namjestiti u queen-size krevet; jastuci i posteljina su pripremljeni u spremištu kauča, identične visoke kvalitete kao i oprema u spavaćoj sobi. Na zidu je montiran veliki televizor, s više od sto kanala i mogućnošću odabira filmova i drugih video sadržaja po želji. Cijeli apartman je pokriven s besplatnim WiFi signalom. Osigurani su i adapteri za internacionalne strujne utikače. Ako gosti požele čitati, osigurali smo i malu kolekciju međunarodnih bestselera. Neighborhood/ Susjedstvo
The surrounding offer much more than just picturesque view – it is also convenient. A bakery, butchery and grocery stores are situated in close proximity, as well as laundromat, hair-dresser, travel agencies, etc. An excellent green market with fresh fruits and vegetables is situated at ten minutes walk. Even closer there is a spectacular fish market, which is one of the most interesting and overlooked parts of the city. Here, the freshest fishes and seafood are sold, captured that very morning. The prices are suitable for every pocket, ranging from three euros for anchovies and the musky octopus to fifty and more euros for huge and rare fish species, as dentex, redfish or St. Peter. Even if you’re not interested in fish, it’s an unbeatable location for local people life-style observation. A dozen coffee shops, fast foods, restaurants, taverns and diners overflow the neighborhood, ready to serve all tastes and pockets. Susjedstvo
U susjedstvu gosti neće naći samo slikovito okruženje, već i sve što im je potrebno tijekom boravka. Na nekoliko minuta od apartmana je pekarnica, mesnica i velika samoposluga, kao i praonica rublja, frizerski salon, putne agencije, itd. Glavna gradska tržnica je udaljena samo deset minuta hoda, sa svježim povrćem i voćem iz lokalnih vrtova, a čak i bliže je glavna ribarnica, s uvijek svježom ribom i drugim plodovima mora, s veoma pristupačnim cijenama. Za 10 do dvadeset kuna moguće je kupiti tog jutra ulovljenu plavu ribu; naravno, tu su i primjerci plemenite ribe koje se prodaju po 200 ili 300 kuna za kilogram. Čak i ako gosti nisu ljubitelji ribe, ribarnicu treba posjetiti, jer je to mjesto gdje se možda ponajbolje dobiva uvid u posebnosti mediteranskog životnog stila. Najzad, cijelo susjedstvo je preplavljeno kafićima, konobama, tavernama i restoranima, za sve ukuse i financijske mogućnosti; u skoro svakoj uličici ih je nekoliko. Directions /Kako doći do apartmana
It is easy to reach Karmen’s Apartment One. The bus and railway station, as well as the ferry port are all located in the same place and are 1.0 km or 15 minutes walking distance away from our apartment. Taxies and busses are at the end of the promenade Riva, which is 200 meters away. The airport is 24 km away from the city center, and there is a shuttle operating to the bus terminal. We can also arrange private transportation for our guests, not just to the airport but also to Split surroundings and other cities. As you can imagine, the streets in Varoš were not built for cars. The closest parking is therefore 5 minutes away, and a fee is usually charged. Security & Smoking
The apartment is equipped with a reinforced front door, window bars (since it is located on the ground floor), a smoke detector, fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and anti-sliding tiles in the bathroom. We appreciate if guests do not smoke inside the property. In the sitting area in the garden there is an ashtray and in any case it is more enjoyable to enjoy a nice glass of wine and a cigarette outside in the evening. House rules
