Did you know that Croatia has 20 intangible assets listed on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage?

One of them is lacemaking, a craft that originated during the Renaissance in the Mediterranean and Western Europe. Our sunniest island, Hvar, in addition to its beautiful beaches and rich historical and cultural heritage, features lace as one of its traditional island souvenirs.

And not just any lace, but lace made from agave, which is currently crafted in Croatia by only six nuns in the Benedictine convent in the town of Hvar. The convent was founded back in 1664 when two nuns from the island of Rab arrived in Hvar, and it is located in the house where the great Renaissance poet Hanibal Lucić was born in 1485.

Along with unforgettable memories from this beautiful island, Hvar lace is the perfect souvenir to take with you around the world.

Znate li nabrojati svih sedam Kaštela?

Pomoći ćemo vam - Kaštel Štafilić, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Lukšić, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Gomilica i Kaštel Sućurac.

I naravno, sve to uz čašu vrhunskih lokalnih vinskih sorti.

Can you name all seven Kaštela?

We'll help you - Kaštel Štafilić, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Lukšić, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Gomilica, and Kaštel Sućurac. These ancient settlements stretch between the UNESCO cities of Split and Trogir, and together they form the community of the city of Kaštela.

The area prides itself on a long winemaking tradition, which is why, in the beautiful setting of olive groves and vineyards, winemaker Mladen Kuzmanić introduced us to local specialties - cuttlefish and fava beans, pancetta, goat cheese, and homemade sausage. And, of course, all of this with a glass of premium local wine varieties.

Have you watched the show from Kaštela aired on Croatian Television, which is part of our series 'Dalmatian Brunch'?

Did you know that there are more olive trees in Dalmatia than there are people in Croatia🫒?
It is estimated that today we enjoy more than 4 million trees throughout Dalmatia, with over a million growing on the island of Brač alone!

The season of liquid Dalmatian gold has just reached its peak. Although it started earlier than usual, this year’s olive harvest and olive oil production are in full swing.
All the secrets of this remarkable plant can be discovered on the island of Brač in the village of Škrip at the "Olive Oil Museum" or in Klis at the Olive Museum.

How was your harvest this year? Did the liquid gold meet all your expectations?

If your travels take you to the island of Brač, one of the must-visit stops should certainly be Pučišća. This beautiful place is home to the Stonemasonry School, which not only trains future stonecraft masters but also attracts around 20,000 visitors annually.

Founded in 1909, this unique institution is the only one in this part of Europe that uses ancient Roman hand tools in the study of stonemasonry, thus preserving the centuries-old tradition of the island known for its premium white stone.

The building of the Stonemasonry School itself is a symbol of Brač heritage, constructed from Brač stone, just like many famous buildings around the world. One of the stories even suggests that the White House in the United States is partially made from Brač stone.

The doors of the Stonemasonry School are open to tourists by prior arrangement via email or phone, which you can find at www.klesarskaskola.hr

Picigin is traditional Croatian water sport that originated in Split. 🌊

The game is mostly played on beaches with shallow water. The goal is to prevent the ball from touching the surface of the sea, while performing acrobatic maneuvers and attractive jumps. 🤽‍♂️

In Split, Bačvice Beach is a hotspot for picigin all year round. This locals favorite game is played day and night, and since 2005 the so-called World Championship in Picigin has been organized every first day of the New Year. ⚾
