1. Croatia’s flag is one of the oldest national flags in the world, dating back to the 10th century.
2. Croatia is home to the world’s smallest town, Hum, which has a population of only around 20 people.
3. The Dalmatian dog breed originated in Croatia, specifically in the region of Dalmatia along the Adriatic coast.
4. The necktie (Cravat) originated in Croatia, initially part of the traditional uniform worn by Croatian soldiers in the 17th century.

CROATIA TRANSPORTATION: WHAT TRAVELERS NEED TO KNOW! Wanted to offer some tips to ALL traveling in Croatia and asking questions about transportation. Croatia's unique geography can make getting around the country a bit of a challenge, but keep in mind that country is one of the safest in the world, and fairly inexpensive. Getting around Croatia requires some planning especially if you want to travel from capitol Zagreb to the coast or northeast and vice versa. Island hopping is great but using the local ferries can be confusing at first. Again, as mentioned in my previous posts in this forum, connect with your local hosts, or services offered to help you navigate through Croatia for transit TIPS that make all the difference and getting around much easier. Ferries are reliable, buses comfortable, flights very affordable and driving and renting a car is somewhat easy on well maintained roads, just not during PEAK season, July and August. Croatia relies on coach bus service more than its trains so bus networks are more extensive than its rail lines. There are multi private bus companies which differs in price and luxury depending on where you want to go. Often you can buy tickets online (getbybus is good place), or at the bus station. Train is not the most popular way to travel in Croatia as country has very few rail lines between cities. Trains are also comfortable, efficient and safe and price affordable. No trains run on the COAST. Taxis are widely available even in smaller cities and town along with Uber. You may have a language barier in smaller places and town, so maybe use apps to avoid that. Two biggest taxi companies are Cammeo and EkoTaxi and you can download their apps. Uber is available in most major cities, like Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar and many other coastal destinations.
