Visited an interesting historical location today - a restored old Turkish 'han' in Vrana, near Pakoštane. It used to be a Turkish caravansererai - a stop for caravan merchants to stay over night and hold their animals and goods within the fortified walls of the inn so to be protected from getting raided. The merchants could enjoy some rest and nurishment within the safety. It's been restored and turned into a hotel and restaurant where you can eat some Turkish food and enjoy a nice traditional turkish coffee with baklava :)! Very interesting!

One of my new 3D renders of Diocletian's Palace - this time it is Diocletian's Mausoleum or today's Cathedral of Split. I printed these in A3 format so they are visible in more detail as I use them for my demonstrations during the tour!

A default barbaque in Croatia! I made some pork shoulder, pork belly and ćevapi cooked on natural wood. And some sides of mashed potatoes and sauerkraut pan fried with pancetta. Best way to spend a sunny sunday!

Traditional plates for my mother-in-law's birthsday! Ehat a winter treat!

Dry meat of all kinds familiar to Croatia - many different sausages (some fried, some just wind dried) pancetta, stuffed eggs and - a must for winter - homemade sauerkraut just fried a bit with pancetta! Yup, this is definitely something you wanna eat during cold winter days!

Octopus under the lid (Peka) and octopus salad. Traditional way to prepare food in the Ottoman influenced regions, but here in coastal parts of Croatia it has a little twist - we make seafood under the lid and its is something.

Here my wive's brother-in-law and I made it for the first time and I am very happy how it turned out. Also there is octopus salad on the side, which in my opinion even beats the main course in taste!

Paradižot - Dalmatia's version of floating island dessert. I got blasted to childhood this morning when my mother-in-law made it for my daughters birthday! What a nice treat with my morning coffee!

Ancient ruins of Salona! The largest archeological park in Croatia just 5 minutes from Split. This massive ruined city was the center of Roman provence of Dalmatia and a metropolis of it's time until it was devastated and forever destroyed by barbarians in the 7th century! A must see for big Riman history buffs

Basement halls of Diocletian's Palace in Split, Croatia. They are one of the best-preserved structures of ancient Roman architecture of this kind and their existence is one of the main reasons why the core of the city of Split is enlisted in UNESCO-s world heritage sites in 1979. It is a large complex of around 60 circular, square, and crosslike chambers, located directly beneath what would have been the private quarters of Diocletian's residence.

My attempt at making a 3D model of Diocletian's Palace is getting there! The model itself is done, but now comes the difficult task of learning the texturing process. As I am trying to represent the model as true to the original as I can, I've taken photos of the original parts of the Palace and tried to take them to 3D.

You can see the process of texturing the Palace with original photographs from the site on this article!

Thank you!

During pandemic downtime, I was busy and tried to learn a new skill. It was 3D modeling. And after hundreds of hours, the first results are showing. Below is my work-in-progress reconstruction of Diocletian's Palace. I hope I will finish it sometime soon so I can use the model to demonstrate on my tablet side-by-side comparisons of how it used to look!
