TOURETTE FORTRESS ISLAND KORNAT

Above the small church, there is also a fortress from very old age, 6th century. It was built for protection from the sea enemies who would come here and control over traffic. The remains can be seen from our boat on the way to the captain's house.

Our Lady of Tarac Church

Park contains many interesting cultural sights dating back to the Middle Ages, one of which is surely impressive small church of Our Lady of Tarac. Modest, one-nave sacral building built in the 17th century on the location of an early Christian basilica from the 6th century, this church was probably built from remains of the previous church. This church is dedicated to the Visitation of Mary.

Masses are still organized in the church today, every first Sunday in July and the meaning of these masses has already overgrown the exclusive religious frames and has become a part of tourism attraction of that area

In the vicinity of the church (in today’s sheepfold) we find traces of foundations of former building and today it is not certain whether that was a Templar monastery or a monastery where monks of the Order of the Saint Benedict lived. It is interesting that during the Middle Ages Kornati were known as Insulae Sanctae Mariae, Stomorin Island and similarly because of the church dedicated to Holly Mary.

ŽDRELAC BRIDGE

The Ždrelac Bridge (Croatian: Most Ždrelac) is a 210-metre (690 ft) through arch bridge carrying the D110 state road connecting islands of Ugljan and Pašman in Croatia. The original bridge was completed in 1972, however 2009 reconstruction increased the main span (replacing three spans with one) and widened the deck.

Currently the main span consists of a 68-metre (223 ft) long steel arch carrying the 11.8-metre (39 ft) wide deck. The reconstruction works also included strengthening the piers supporting the central span arch structure. Cost of the reconstruction works was reported to be 17.17 million Croatian kuna. The reconstruction works were carried out by Konstruktor, Split.

LIGHTHOUSE SESTRICE

This lighthouse was built in 1876 on the islet bearing the same name, on north-eastern side of the National park of Kornati. It consists of a high octagonal metal tower and a building with ground floor, first floor and attic with an area of 520 m2 in total.

Making part of the lighthouse there is a depot, an engine room, a wharf, a boat hoist and a boat shelter. The lighthouse is automated and included into remote control system. It has lightkeepers.

MOVIE VILLAGE ON MANA

Private island Mana is our first destination where we stop for 2 hours. On top of the island there is a movie village. The story behind it is very interesting. It was built for a movie called "As the sea rages" in 19th century. Beautiful scenery will shock you. Amazing panoramic view is perfect for taking photos that will stay as a memory forever.

Wooden Boat Plava Laguna

Boat Plava Laguna is a wooden tourist boat that transports tourist to the National Park Kornati for twenty years. Maximum capacity is 90 persons. Every summer season, there are daily trips to the Kornati archipelago. The biggest adventage of this is boat is shallow bottom, so we can stop on locations where other bigger boats are unable to. That's what makes our trips so special. Captain Igor is very proud of his boat that is very well known by all other inhabitants of Kornati, and often accompanied with dolphins who got familliar with it, so they come to hang out.

Captain's House is situated on the island of Kornat in a small community of only 7 fishermen houses. Wonderful tranquility reigns over that area, for none of the ships come there. In the homelike ambient of the house of our Captain Igor, we organize a dinner in the shade of centennial olive trees. They provides us with shelter and oil for every day consumption. For a main meal, we serve fish and fried meat, mixed salad and fruits as a dessert. Wine that one can drink during the entire day of the trip is made in the basement of our Captain and of very fine quality. Sodas and other soft drinks are at hand as well.

KRISTALNO ČISTO MORE ZA RONJENJE

Moramo vam skrenuli pozornost da je kopneni dio parka, pa tako i vrhovi, u potpunosti u privatnom vlasništvu, uglavnom mještana s obližnjeg otoka Murtera, pa se prilikom razgledavanja trebate ponašati kao pažljivi i obazrivi gosti. Imajte na umu i da je ljeti sunce jako, a hlada je na Kornatima malo, što može pješačenje učiniti nesnosnim. Srećom, osvježenje možete potražiti u kristalno čistom kornatskom moru, a ako ste u prilici, zavirite i u modre dubine, barem uz pomoć maske i disalice. Za "snorkeling" vam nije potrebna posebna dozvola, dok je ronjenje uz autonomnu ronilačku opremu dopušteno u organiziranim i odobrenim grupama. Dozvola se izdaje u ronilačkim centrima, koji će vam preporučiti i neku od sedam zona namijenjenih ronjenju. Svaka od njih nosi posebna uzbuđenja i doživljaje. Na području parka postoji i dvadesetak restorana i konoba koje n**e kvalitetnu domaću hranu, uglavnom morske specijalitete i domaću, kornatsku, janjetinu

Kvalificirani ronioci svakako su u povlaštenom položaju jer mogu uživati u vrijednostima zbog kojih je ovo područje i proglašeno nacionalnim parkom. No, vratimo se razgledavanju i otputujmo nekoliko tisućljeća unatrag. O naseljenosti otočja u prapovijesno doba svjedoče ostaci ilirskih gradina, dok je iz doba Bizanta ostala utvrda Tureta na otoku Kornatu. Radi se o vojnoj građevini koja je nadzirala plovidbu tada prilično nesigurnim Jadranom.

U podnožju utvrde smjestila se starokršćanska trobroda bazilika, a posebno je zanimljiva crkvica Gospe od Tarca, u kojoj se svake prve nedjelje u srpnju održavaju svete mise. U uvali Lavsa, na istoimenom otoku, nalaze se potopljeni ostaci solane i ostaci skladišta za sol. Mlečani su u 16. stoljeću na otoku Vela Panitula izgradili kaštel koji je služio za ubiranje poreza na ribu od kornatskih ribara. Na susjednom otoku Piškeri podignuto je u to doba prilično veliko ribarsko naselje s osam mulića i pokretnim mostom koji je spajao Piškeru i Velu Panitulu. Nažalost, padom Mletačke Republike naselje se ugasilo, a danas su ostali samo ostaci kaštela i crkvice koja je obnovljena.
