BAKOVIC SISTERS FOR ETERNITY ⭐️

'In her two-hour tour, Matijevic takes domestic and foreign tourists to places in Zagreb that were important for Tito’s Partisan movement, which fought against the forces of the Independent State of Croatia, NDH, a puppet state established in 1941 by the fascist Ustasa movement with the support of N**i Germany and fascist Italy.

The stops on the walking tour include places associated with Ustasa terror, where anti-fascists were imprisoned, or where Partisan fighters carried out surprise attacks on Ustasa troops.

One of the sites is in front of the busts of the anti-fascist Bakovic sisters in the city centre. Rajka Bakovic, 21, and Zdenka Bakovic, 24, were tortured and killed by the Ustasa in 1941.

Matijevic said she believes that their fate was “tragic but heroic” because, despite all the torture they suffered, they never informed on any of their comrades. “They were so young, and to this day, we cannot even imagine how courageous that was,” she said.'

PROUD TO BE PARTISAN ⭐️

I moja nona je bila partizanka ✊ SF-SN!

MARA MATIJEVIĆ ❤⚓

Sestra moje none Kate. Uz svu ljubav koju sam imala za Katu, za moj odgoj ipak je sudbonosnu ulogu imala Mara, što je moja nona često teško podnosila. Ključ problema je vjerojatno bio u tome što je Kata virovala u boga, a Mara u Marxa. Mara je bila revolucionarka, nevjerojatno hrabra i čestita žena koja je u životu bila vođena s dvije maksime: sloboda i ljubav. Prvo borba za slobodu, a onda ćemo se volit', bio je njen stav. Priključuje se Narodnooslobodilačkom pokretu u kotaru Senj od prvog dana. Bila je bolničarka. Bila je kurir. Po škrapama Velebita se penjala i prenosila krucijalne informacije suborcima. Nikad nije imala pratnju. Jedini prijatelj tih ratnih godina bio joj je revolver s kojim je vješto baratala. Neokrznuta je preživjela WW2. Okupatori koji su se s njom susreli nisu. Po završetku rata, otišla je u Krasno, ispovidila grije (i ona je malkice vjerovala da mora postojati nešto više od nas grešnih smrtnika) i čvrsto sebi obećala da su dani pravedničkog gnjeva iza nje, te da se sad želi posvetiti idealu ljubavi. Seli u Rijeku, odbija sve daljnje političke aktivnosti i zapošljava se kao krojačica. Oduvijek je bila gracija s profinjenim osjećajem za estetiku, pa su njene kreacije vraćale ženama tako potrebnu vjeru u 'moć lijepog' u onim poratnim vremenima sveopće bijede i oskudice. Bila je svojeglava, bila je ponosna i igrala je samo po svojim pravilima. Pa kad bi mi nona Kata u ljutnji znala reći 'Sva si na vražju Maru', zadovoljno sam to smatrala najvećim mogućim komplimentom!

"Veliki broj, 90 procenata studenata je poštena omladina o kojoj mi nismo vodili dovoljno računa, u kojoj smo vidjeli samo učenike, samo đake u školama, za koje još nije vrijeme da se uključuju u društveni život naše socijalističke zajednice. To je bilo pogrešno. Mi smo njih ostavili same. Tu svoju grešku mi sagledavamo… Mi, drugovi, smo niz p**a govorili o tome da treba voditi brigu o čovjeku.

A ja mislim da su toliko zasenile te razne investicije u očima i u mislima ljudi, da su oni zaboravili čovjeka… Neki kažu ovo je odraz onoga što se događa u Francuskoj, u Njemačkoj, u Češkoj… Nije to tačno. Nije to odraz toga. To je odraz naših slabosti koje su se nagomilale, koje mi danas moramo rješavati, a ne kriviti neke utjecaje iz vana…", rekao je u tom čuvenom govoru Josip Broz. 🛑

"Mr. Burton said the Yugoslavs asked his wife if she would like a role. “She could have played the part of a woman doctor, a partisan, who was badly wounded in that battle and died later,” he said. It's a nice part, but nobody would believe Elizabeth being a partisan.

“Tito's wife was a partisan, a great fighter, understand. You can see very quickly that underneath her charm there is a very strong woman. But she did not participate in that battle, and the Yugoslavs are remaining remarkably faithful to the facts.”

Mr. Burton remembered another question his wife had asked Tito. “They got on very well, you know,” he said. “He likes pretty women, to begin with. Anyway, at one point she said she had noticed all the pictures of Tito showed him to be quite neat. ‘You were quite a dandy,’” she said.

“He replied to that yes, he was, but since the partisans wore no badges of rank ‘I thought I would at least be well groomed.’ She asked him if it was not unusual for a soldier to be without a stubble. He said he went only one day without shaving, and that was when he was wounded."
