[ Cathedral of Dubrovnik - must see on your next Croatia sailing trip ]

Believe it or not, the Cathedral of Dubrovnik was built mostly from the donation of an English king, more precisely, Richard the Lionheart. When he returned from the Third Crusade on 1192, a terrible storm caught him off the Croatian coast. Seeing no way out, he began to pray, and promised that if he survive he would build a monumental cathedral where he touched the ground. He arrived at Lokrum but concluded that the cathedral has to be built in the city. Just like that, the people of Dubrovnik received a valuable royal donation and built a cathedral.
