Dubrovnik, often reffered to as the 'Pearl of the Adriatic', is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its stunning medieval architecture and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. 🗺 Our tours through this city reveal many secrets.

🗯 Here are five things you might not know about Dubrovnik:

▫️Dubrovnik was a self-governing city-state for centuries, known as the Republic of Ragusa. Ragusa was the official name of Dubrovnik until 1808.

▫️Dubrovnik is home to the third oldest pharmacy in the world ("Mala braća") that is still in operation. You can still visit it today and see old medical manuscripts and tools.

▫️Dubrovnik once saved the life of English King Richard the Lionheart. In 1192, while returning from the Third Crusade, he was caught in a terrible storm near Dubrovnik. He began to pray and promised that if he survived, he would build a monumental cathedral on that spot. He was saved on the small island of Lokrum near Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik then received a valuable donation and they built a cathedral in the center of the city.

▫️Dubrovnik was one of the first in the world to recognize the independence of the United States.

▫️Famous people adore Dubrovnik. Every summer, the city is frequented by various rich and famous individuals, so it is very likely that you will encounter some Hollywood names on the streets of Dubrovnik.
