Živogošće is a village group consisting of 5 villages: Porat, Mala Duba and Blato, as well as the ancient villages such as Strnj and Murava, which are located at 1km from the sea, right at the foot of the Biokovo mountain range. Živogošće got its name from "Zivom goscenju", quote from travelers from long past times. But the habits and traditions of the past have remained: friendly fishermen and peasants, an indescribable sunny weather and natural beaches, which since 1965 and completion of the "Magistrala" (coastal area), have been growing for more than 50 years, because of tourism in this region.
These villages are mutually connected not only by the road, but also by few kilometer long white pebble beach crowned by a pine wood and tamarisk. Natural beauties of olive groves and pine woods hovering over small pebbled beaches, clean and unpolluted sea and all of that in the foothill of a big mountain are all giving tourists a special lure and pleasure of stay in Živogošće area.
