🚍🌍 Behind the Scenes at Lake Balaton 🌊

Ever wondered what goes into creating a new excursion?

When a new tour is about to take place, every detail is meticulously planned—from the initial research and site inspections 🕵️‍♂️📋 to the final touches. It’s a lengthy process that begins with careful pre-planning and collaboration with our partners 🤝 and culminates in a joint visit with those who will bring the experience to life: our passionate guides and drivers. 🚩🛞

🗺️ Last week, we embarked on our final study tour with our team of local guides and representatives from each department. 👥

⛴️ We crossed Lake Balaton on the local ferry, taking in breathtaking views as our motor coach was smoothly transported across the water. Next, we explored Tihany's Abbey ✝️ with an expert guide, unlocking centuries of history. Another highlight of the tour was the visit to the Lavender Distillery—a fragrant, immersive dive into the lavender harvest process and the wide array of products crafted from this scented purple herb! 🌿💜

🍽️ We also revisited the restaurant where our guests will enjoy not only their lunch but a stunning panorama of the lake. Afterward, we took a pleasant stroll along the promenade of Balatonfüred and ended our day with a refreshing ice cream 🍦 before heading back to Budapest.

📍👏 But this day wasn’t just about the locations. It’s a shoutout to our incredible team—every department plays a role in making the experiences with Heed unforgettable. From research to ex*****on, we’re all in this together, to deliver quality and excitement before our first guests even step on the bus. 🎉

🌟 Meet Kinga Tittel, the brilliant mind behind “Fabulous Budapest”! 📖

A former economist turned excellent tour guide, Kinga discovered her passion for showcasing the beauty of her hometown after years of organizing excursions on ocean cruise ships around the world. Since 2008, she's been guiding visitors through the streets of Budapest, sharing her deep love for the city.

Kinga's “Fabulous Budapest” isn't just a guidebook—it's an invitation to experience the city's unique charm through her eyes. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Kinga, creating a one-of-a-kind walking tour based on her book. Even though she now sails the rivers of Europe as a Cruise Director, you might still spot her in Budapest, guiding visitors with the same enthusiasm and wit that make her book such a delightful read.

Fun fact: Kinga also hosts her own radio show, “Mesélő Budapest”, where she continues to share her love for the city, proving that "whoever refreshes others will be refreshed" (Proverbs 11:25). 🌍📚

🇭🇺🍰 Introducing the Cake of Hungary 2024: Mákvirág (Poppy Blossom)! 🍰🇭🇺

🎉 This year marks the eighteenth time that the Hungarian Confectioners' Association has organized the Cake of Hungary competition, held every year in honor of our national holiday on August 20. The theme for 2024 was "superfood," challenging confectioners to showcase their creativity with ingredients like berries, cereals, seeds, and vegetables. Popular choices included beetroot, carrots, poppy seeds, pumpkin, blueberries, and walnuts. 🌟🍇🥕

The grand prize went to the talented Alfréd Kovács from Vác for his exquisite creation, "Mákvirág" (Poppy Blossom). This delightful cake combines poppy seeds, blackcurrants, and black sesame to evoke memories of poppy seed pasta, garden-picked blackcurrants, and his grandmother’s freshly baked pastries. 🍰✨

For those who prefer sugar-free treats, the "Green Raspberry" cake by Szeged-based confectioners Ádám Novák and László Csonka is a must-try. This pistachio-raspberry-rose creation is not only delicious but also diabetic-friendly, with just 232.4 kcal and 10.5 grams of carbohydrates per slice. 🍓💚

Ready to taste the magic? Head over to Magyar Ízek Utcája or your nearest confectionery starting August 19 and experience the bliss for yourself.

Challenge time! 📸🎂 Share your cake pics and let us know if Mákvirág lives up to the hype. Is it a culinary masterpiece or just another pretty pastry? We can’t wait to hear your thoughts and see your photos!

Szabina Szulló began her culinary journey at Kempinski Hotel Corvinus in the ’90s, then the best restaurant in Hungary. There, she met Zoltán Hamvas and Tamás Széll, forming a powerhouse team. Together, they conceptualized Onyx Restaurant, which later earned a Michelin star.

🇭🇺🍲 Hungarian Fish Soup: The Red Gold of Our Culinary Heritage 🎣🔥

Hungarian fish soup, or fisherman’s soup, is the beloved red gold of Hungary, and its preparation varies greatly across our beautiful regions.

The roots of fisherman’s soup are as diverse as the waters from which the fish are sourced—the mighty Tisza and Danube rivers. Baja, by the Danube, and Szeged, by the Tisza, are renowned for their distinct fish soups, crafted by fishermen as simple yet delectable meals that could be cooked anywhere over a bonfire in a cauldron. 🐟

Baja’s Fish Soup 🏞️🍜 Hailing from the town of Baja by the Danube, this fish soup stands out with its use of noodles, specifically “gyufatészta.” A tradition passed down through generations, Baja’s fish soup is more than just a meal—it's a symbol of our cultural heritage. Consumed by nearly every resident of Baja since it was introduced to civilian cuisine in the late 19th century, this soup represents the heart and soul of the community. It's an intellectual asset that strengthens national cohesion and serves as an example of preserving local culture in our multicultural world.

Tisza Region’s Fish Soup 🌊🎣 Known for its complexity, the Tisza region offers several varieties: Szeged, Szolnok, and Tisza vinous. Unlike Baja’s simpler method, where fish is just stewed with onions, Tisza’s recipe starts with a rich broth made from onions, paprika, and fish offal. This broth is then sieved, and fish steaks are cooked to perfection in it. No noodles here—just pure, hearty fish goodness. And let's not forget, since 2017, Tisza fish soup proudly holds the title of a Hungarikum.

From the rich, sieved broths of Tisza to the noodle-infused bowls of Baja, Hungarian fish soup showcases Hungarian culinary ingenuity and regional pride. Each spoonful is a celebration of intense flavors with loads of paprika. 🌟❤️

🏎️ Get Ready for the Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring! 🇭🇺

This weekend, the Formula 1 circus arrives at the historic Hungaroring, a track that has carved out a unique place in F1 history. Built nearly 40 years ago, the Hungaroring was the first circuit behind the Iron Curtain and has since become a beloved classic on the F1 calendar.

It hosted its inaugural race on August 10, 1986, where Nelson Piquet claimed victory in front of an astounding 300,000 spectators. Over the years, this track has witnessed unforgettable moments and dramatic battles. From Nigel Mansell's heartbreaking wheel loss in 1987 to Damon Hill's last-lap technical failure in 1997, it has been a stage for high drama and legendary performances. 🎭🏆

With its technical, twisty layout, the Hungaroring is known as one of the toughest tracks for drivers. It’s a challenge to master, as evidenced by Sebastian Vettel's nine-year struggle to secure his first win here in 2015. The track's dusty surface and hot weather conditions add to the challenge, making victories here even more rewarding. 🌞💪

Over the years, the track has undergone several modifications. The major changes in 1989 and 2003, including the removal of the triple chicane and the lengthening of the target straight, have kept the racing exciting and demanding. 🔧🚗💨

The Hungaroring is more than just a track; it’s a symbol of tradition amidst modern, uniform circuits. Drivers and teams love its classic style and the beautiful valley setting close to Budapest. 🌳🏙️

The Hungarian Grand Prix has always been a staple on the F1 calendar. With a contract extending to 2027, the Hungaroring continues to be a key fixture in the F1 world, promising more thrilling races and memorable moments. 📅🏁

Got Budapest on your travel map? 🗺️ Don’t speed by the Hungaroring! We’re here to help you take the fast lane! 🚀

🌟 Discover the Bauhaus Treasures of Budapest! 🌟

Bauhaus, the pioneering art institution and architectural school of the early 20th century, left a lasting mark on Budapest. From 1927 to 1933, and even up to 1949, the city embraced modernism with sleek, functional designs characterized by geometric shapes, homogeneous façades, horizontal balconies, and flat roofs. Approximately 300 buildings were erected with the easily recognisable signs of modernism. 🏗️

🏠 Explore the Bauhaus Gems of Budapest:

📍 Újlipotváros: Once an industrial area, it transformed into a modern residential haven, inspired by European trends. The trend broke with the design of rooms with high ceilings and large floor areas and adapted the interiors to the needs of a modern, urban lifestyle.

📍 Pasarét & Napraforgó Street: Home to the most striking Bauhaus examples, including a street entirely dedicated to Bauhaus homes, modeled after Stuttgart's designs.

📍 Bajza Villa: Designed by József Fischer and Eszter Pécsi, this villa's elegant design captivated many, including opera singer Rózsi Walter. Now the Hungarian Museum of Architecture, it's a must-visit for its architectural exhibitions.

Experience the clean, uncluttered spaces and innovative designs that made Bauhaus a cornerstone of modern urban living in Budapest. Whether you're an architecture enthusiast or just looking to enjoy a beautiful afternoon, these Bauhaus treasures are sure to inspire. 🏛️✨
