Visiting a light park in this greyness, when it’s already dark at 4 - 4:30 pm is a great idea! Everyone walked along with childlike joy, admiring the beautiful light installations (me too) 😊 Warm clothing is essential!

At the Royal Palace of Gödöllő (an hour from Budapest) there are two very interesting temporary exhibitions worth visiting:

🔹“Royal Christmases” that can be visited until January 12. This is from the private collection of Dr. Gábor Szalai with valuable & unique postcards and correspondence with the current European monarchies: Belgium, Denmark, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom.

🔹“Queen Elisabeth (Sisi) on film and stage” that can be visited until February 28. My all time favorite Romy Schneider is also there and a few breathtaking dresses from the original set 😊

Mézeskalács, bejgli (with poppy seed or walnut ), hókifli: just a few Christmas delicacies that can’t be missing from the table during the holidays. Almost everyone has a tried-and-true family recipe, but there are a few cake shops that still make really delicious treats! 😍

The Auguszt Confectionery (opened in 1870) is surely among my favorites because of the wide selection and excellent quality.

Budapest has quite many iconic statues & mini statues worth discovering. Most of them have a historical aspect, a story to tell. The mini statues are the works of and if you want to explore them a map is a big help because they are spread all over the city! Even children can have so much fun searching after them 😍

My favorite in Budapest is the Rabbit with the Checkered Ears in the Buda Castle next to the Funicular. This rabbit it’s a very popular Hungarian cartoon character! Almost all residents have a personal connection or fond memory to one of the statues.

If you’re visiting Budapest in November you must try the roasted goose leg because it’s delicious 😋 On November 11 it’s St. Martin’s Day and almost all restaurants are offering very good goose dishes. Food plays an important role in our local culture and is a representation of the history and values!

If you’re looking for a less touristy city to visit with beautiful architecture, charming old town, good restaurants and many interesting sights to explore you should visit Székesfehérvár. So much history and hidden gems! Not to mention that’s only one hour from Budapest 😉

Villages in Hungary have a special charm, especially this one called Feked (2 hours away from Budapest). After the Ottoman rule the village was depopulated. From the 1720’s it was repopulated from the area around Fulda (Germany). The inhabitants were mainly engaged in farming and animal husbandry (just like nowadays).

So happy when I have special request, like visiting places from where ancestors started their life, because I got to see hidden treasures like this one 🥰

Beautiful fall colors in the City Park 🍁

If you want to have a pleasant and colorful walk, eat an amazing lángos and/or chimney cake, visit a few interesting buildings you shouldn’t miss the City Park! It’s so much more over there than the very crowded Széchenyi Thermal Bath 😉

This hidden gem can be found only half hour away from Budapest in Pécel. The Ráday Castle has seen better days, but you can still see its old charm. The “small” baroque castle was built from 1755 until 1766 (this was the firt phase of construction) by the Ráday noble family.

Decorated with special frescoes the castle was a meeting place for scientists and writers. At the moment can’t be visited, but hopefully they won’t wait too long for a major renovation. Under communism they forgot about it and by early 1950’s the building was almost completely destroyed.

Thank you so much for your sweet messages! ❤️😘 In Budapest we’re safe, the water was on the highest level this morning at 830 centimeters (in 2013 this level was 891 cm). And from today it will slowly go back to the “normal” stream bed. According to experts the roads can be cleaned in a few days (the two quays were under water, a section of the tram tunnel, ticketing stations).

In the Danube bend a few houses are still under water, especially those in the floodplain.

Every 5-10 years we have a major flood but because of the climate change unfortunately this will happen more often.

Fortunately everywhere were preparing with great strength and cooperation! 🙏

Beautiful summer sunrises that I already miss a lot! 😍 Fall came very suddenly with lots of rain and unusually cold weather. The water level of the Danube rises drastically (in Budapest soon will reach almost 8 meters).
So waterproof & layered clothing will be essential in the coming days and weeks. But of course, nothing can break our good mood! 😊

Summer is almost over but you shouldn’t be sad because fall season offers a lot of festivals in Budapest & Hungary!

My fall favorite is the Budapest Wine Festival organized in the Buda Castle from September 12 until September 15. Here you can taste amazing wines from all over Hungary!🍷

For chimney cake fans there will be a chimney cake festival on October 11 in the City Park Zoo. The organizers are preparing with 13 stands and many different flavors 😋
