Looking closer at the traces of ancient volcanic eruptions in the Flores Sea
Satonda Island is a volcanic island located in the Flores Sea, specifically on the north coast of Sumbawa Island. According to research, the island actually originated from the eruption of the ancient Satonda volcano, which left a trace of six square kilometers of land with a four-square-kilometer saltwater lake in the middle.
The lake was originally a freshwater lake. However, on 15 April 1815, Tambora Volcano erupted and caused a tsunami that drove sea water into Satonda Lake.
