This park is one of the heritage sites of the Karangasem Kingdom.
The origin of the name
Tirta Gangga comes from the word "Tirta" which means holy water and "Gangga" which is the name of a holy river in India.
This name is also used to refer to the area that includes the water palace and the surrounding rural areas.
Purpose of construction
Tirta Gangga was built as a recreation area for the king and his family.
This park is also a stopover for the royal family and royal guests.
Historical development
Tirta Gangga was almost completely destroyed by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963.
This park was then rebuilt and restored.
In 1979, this park was designated as a cultural heritage by the central government.
In 1981, this park received financial assistance from the Dutch government to carry out restoration.
