Buddhism is an important element in Bali Hindu religious practices. Few people realize that Buddhism even predates Hinduism on the island, which is unusual in the study of eastern religions because Hinduism is far older. Indian merchants first arrived in Bali in about 200 BCE and it was probably these people who introduced Buddhism as well as Hinduism. A Buddhist king ruled Bali during the 10th century. Negarakertagama, a 14th century work written by the Prapanca, lists all the Buddhist temples in Bali, 26 in all. In 1275, King Kertanegara underwent a Ta***ic Buddhist initiation to protect his kingdom from an expected invasion by Kublai Khan.

The 14th century Buddhist epic poem Sutasoma – considered one of the greatest and most influential works of Indonesian literature – relates the life and deeds of a prince, born as one of the incarnations of Buddha. Although significantly less known or understood, Sutasoma is comparable in both complexity and scale to that of the Ramayana. With the collapse of Hindu-Buddhist Mahapahit Kingdom in 1515 and the ascendancy of Islam, Java’s old intellectual and religious elite, including the last surviving Buddhist monks and scholars, sought refuge in Bali.

One activity I’ve always wanted to do in Bali is to climb the two active volcanoes on the island – Mount Batur and Mount Agung. Mount Agung is out of the question at the moment since it erupted very recently (just a month before our trip), so we’re only left with one choice — to trek Mount Batur.

Mount Batur climb is best to do at sunrise, so it does require you to wake up at an ungodly hour and be up at the peak of the mountain before sunrise. It’s worth it though!

SUNRISE JEEP TOUR

Batur Global Geopark which is located in Kintamani is one of the most popular place in Bali.The appeals of its natural beauty has invited peoples from all over the world to come. To Enjoy and capturing the beautiful moment of the sunrise and sunset is one of the most reason for tourist to come to Kintamani. The peak of mount Batur is the most spot visited. Visitors have to hike approximately 2 hours to reach the top of mount Batur. But there also still some options of sunrise and sunset spot where visitors don't have to hike that long. The “ Bubung Sunrise “ as what the local people has named is another best option to visit. It is localed on the north side of the Batur Caldera Global Geopark. This place can be reached by special 4WD JEEP which is provided by local jeep community the “ Kaldera Jeep Adveture” KAJA team.

An easy way to enjoy the beauty of sunrise in kintamani without dropping sweat by joining the sunrise jeep tour. By open-air 4WD jeep we will drive you through a narrow track heading to the Bubung Sunrise Point.
Visitors will meet the local jeep adventure team at Toya Bungkah early morning at 5.15 am. it will takes just 30 minutes to get to the sunrise spot Bubung Sunrise Point. Maximum passenger is two person per jeep due to difficult track.

The Bubung Sunrise Point spot is surrounded by spectacular view of natural landscapes. North side is the north bali coastline with the north Bali sea. on the east is the sunrise and even we can see the mount Rinjani in Lombok Island. On southeast, the Mount Agung and Mount Abang are perfecting the beautiful view of the rising sun with its yellowish rays illuminating the mountain walls. Right under we can see the Lake Batur laying in the south side of the Bubung Sunrise Point and on the west is the Mount Batur, especially in the afternoon the sunset view is no less beautiful than the sun rise. so it can be said the the Bubung Sunrise Point is providing complete option of views as well, where ever we look at, there always a beautiful view on our eyes.
In addition, there also local coffee shop available where we can buy glass of black coffee to warm up our body fighting back to cold mountains.
