Pandan War 2018 in East Bali
On June 8th and 30th, the Pandan War, or Mekare-Kare, comes to Tenganan village in East Bali to re-enact a traditional blood sport ritual. Very interesting to watch, with young men doing battle (in a friendly way) with thorny pandan leaves and rattan shields. Celebrated as an age-old ritual, the celebration is dedicated to the Hindu god of war and the sky, Indra.The event is held annually, adhering to its own local calendar.
