H a p p y Hindu Balinese New Year, “Nyepi”
Today the Hindu Balinese are being in a commemoration of going back to the beginning of world that began from the EMPTINESS and DARKNESS which is called “Nyepi”, a day of silence.
The celebration is signified by FOUR PROHIBITIONS (“Catur Brata Penyepian”) :
1. “Amati Gni” ; no having fire/light/power
2. “Amati Karya” ; no having works/activities
3. “Amati Lelangunan” ; no having fun/entertainments
4. “Amati Lelungan” ; no going out/traveling
From those above, we are advised to stay and quit, self-control, self-introspect to improve in the new year, the Hindu Balinese Çaka Year of 1946.
So….today NONE is outside ; all activities are closed ; all businesses get stopped ; all machineries get off ; no pollution ; and the nature stays by itself without any human’s touches.
And…tonight will be overall dark ; no light/black-out ; and no/new-moon.
Yesterday was the excited day signified by The OGOH-OGOH Festival which was celebrated by processing the GIANT/DEMON DOLLS around the villages. This symbolizes to give spaces & times to the EVIL SPIRITS (evil characters) to entertain, enjoy and then calm down.
Well….Happy “Nyepi” to All Hindu Balinese, a peace to all of us.
