A simple balinese Odalan Ceremony at Villa Naga Maya.
Curious about this ceremony ??? Read the full description about it below :
Knowing Balinese Odalan Ceremony.
Odalan is a celebration to commemorate the inauguration day of a temple, a mrajan, or a palinggih (holy shrine). The Odalan ceremony is held every six months according to the Balinese Wuku calendar calculation, but some also use the Sasih (lunar calendar) system, so it is celebrated once a year. Before a palinggih (holy shrine), mrajan (sanggah, family temple) or a temple is made into a holy place, a purification ceremony called mlaspas, ngenteg linggih and mendem padagingan (see respective entries) are performed. The ceremony is performed on a good day, such as Tumpek, Buda Kliwon or Anggara Kasih (see entry). Henceforth, the piodalan ceremony will be carried out according to the day when the first ceremony was performed.
In some temples, the Odalan ceremony is determined based on the instructions of a holy person. Usually, this saint receives divine instructions from an oracle as to which day the piodalan is to be performed. Therefore, there are also temples whose piodalan ceremonies do not fall along with holy days such as tumpek, full moon or tilem (new moon).
There are several levels of Odalan, ranging from the simplest to the most luxurious according to the abilities of the community. Odalan alit is the simplest, but does not reduce the meaning. Basically, all offerings must be based on devotion and sincerity.
At the time of Odalan, palinggih, mrajan (family temple) or public temples are usually decorated with colorful fabrics, coconut decorations such as penjor and a variety of beautiful offerings. The one who leads the ceremony in general is a sulinggih (high priest) or pamangku (common priest) according to the complexity of the ceremony. When a large Odalan ceremony is performed, this ceremony can last three days, seven days to forty-two days, as is usually done at Pura Agung Besakih and ot
