Meet Juli 👋

She’s our legend of a Butler and you’ll find her in Saudara Two! You’ll be greeted by her every morning in your villa. She’s an absolute Wonder Woman. She cooks, she cleans, she helps with your kids, reads them books & can look after them when you want some adult time-out. She manages your washing requirements and arranges tours, dinner bookings and massages. She’s even nip to the supermarket should you need anything rather than you having to navigate your way there and back!

People often ask me:
Q “What does it mean to have a full time butler in your villa?”
Q “What if we want privacy?”
Q “Will it be awkward having someone help us each day?”

You really need to experience a stay with us to understand the true value. Think of it like booking a holiday house, but you also get a full-time person dedicated to look after the operations of the stay. You can have as much or as little interaction as you like. Once she’s has completed her daily tasks to keep everything pristine, then she can leave and is on call to help for the entire day incase you need anything. When you’re in a new country, sometimes it’s easy to forget that things aren’t always the same. Having a local person helping you through any needs. Language barriers or simply to help enhance your education about a new culture can be in-valuable.

Kiwis will now be able to fly to Bali non-stop any time of the year after an announcement from Air New Zealand.
The airline has revealed plans to expand its non-stop services to Bali to include summer months.
Previously, Kiwi travellers eager to fly direct to the Indonesian island had to fly between March and October, when Air New Zealand operates Bali flights. Alternatively, they could fly via Australia with Qantas or Jetstar.
Now, Air New Zealand will fly direct for the entire year. The frequency of flights will change, with the most flights a week between April and the end of October (five to seven flights), and the fewest between mid-February to the end of March (two flights).

The airline will offer one-way fares from $699 from today until midnight Sunday, June 23, to celebrate the announcement.

Expanding the Bali services “made sense” given the demand from Kiwis to visit Bali year round, Air NZ chief customer and sales officer Leanne Geraghty said.
“Bookings to Bali have been strong since we relaunched our seasonal service in March 2023. This year’s seasonal flights have proven even more popular, with thousands of Kiwis booking Bali breaks over the last few months,” she said.
As a result, the airline had decided to offer the service during summer too.

“As the only airline offering a direct connection between Aotearoa and Bali, Kiwis heading off on a Bali break over the summer months no longer need to fly with a stopover.
During the summer period of November to February, the airline will provide more than 800 seats per week to Bali.
A direct flight to Bali can make a significant difference to travel time. Flying direct takes about 9.5 hours, while a stopover can increase travel time to 12 hours, or in some instances, 18 hours.

Potatohead’s Waste Tour is probably one of the best and most meaningful tours I’ve ever done in Bali(or anywhere)…..and IT’S FREE! 🤩

A mind blowing experience showcasing the incredible programme and practices that PotatoHead have in Bali so they can proudly claim a 3% total waste that is sent to landfill. In 2017, they started with the simple act of separating and sorting all waste on-site. At this stage their waste was closer to 50% back to landfill. Whilst running a Huge Resort/Hotel and Beach club these new stats are unbelievable and something they should be so proud to share. Guests will follow the waste’s journey of the venue and get to see how all waste is separated, to being processed as materials before being transformed and used throughout the venue; making furniture, guest gifts and other nik naks. Even the oyster shells from the restaurant and the bottle tops from water bottles all go back into making furniture pieces for the hotel and the cooking oil goes to the local to power the school bus for the kids! 🚌 🦪

In this photo, this artistic installation is made up of 5000+ flip-flops installed at the Beach Club. Washed ashore on beaches along Bali’s West coast, the discarded soles have been collected by employees of Potato Head. The flip-flops are not coloured or changed in any way; they are merely sorted by colour and re-arranged into a new visual reality.

The tour takes about an hour, is held daily at 11am and is FREE and is suitable for adults and kids. You’ll even get to make a crafty item at the end to take home made out of recycled materials.

I’m sharing this photo as it is so incredibly special.

It sums up just one of the reasons I believe I have the best staff and team in earth. They go the extra mile.

I couldn’t help but smile when our guest sent me this. They had ventured out on a day trip with our Driver and Tour Guide JoJo! Our mini-guest had their own VIP experience with her own guide and led by hand the entire way.

Spend a day with JoJo And he will become an extra addition to your family 😍

This is a gorgeous story with a really happy ending that warms my heart every time I think about it that I wanted to share…..

During Covid, we were faced with so many challenged in Bali. More than the average I would say. As a tourist destination, we were one of the first locations to shut down and due to so many ongoing travel restrictions…..we were also one of the last industries and places to recover.

During this period, we had no idea what was ahead, how long we would face these challenges and when the world would ‘return to normal’. We just knew that we needed to smile and keep going. During the period of ‘Covid’ we; the Saudara Villas Team maintained operation every single day. Staff still put on their uniform each day and came to work. This gave them hope, this gave them purpose, and this gave them money. This still gave them a small income whilst allowing them to spend previous time with their families and also kept them safe. During this period, we wanted to do something that would help to ‘make a difference’ to those not as lucky as us.

The Saudara Team began ‘The Bali Food Project.’ We converted our office into a food packing station and the staff came to work, not to clean villas, babysit kids or prepare banquet dinners…..but to pack $10 food packs that would feed a family with the basics for a week. We sought donations from previous guests and our Saudara Community, and we ended up raising around $10,000 that we were able to continue making food packs to distribute not only to your loved Bali friends, but people and villages we came across on the way. We were contacted by so many local people begging us for help to give them food packs for their families. We couldn’t help everyone, but we certainly did our best.

One day I came across a gorgeous post on a local Bali community page. The post was written by a man called Joe. Joe’s post remained with me for a very long time…..year’s infact, and this is where the story starts.

Joes Post wrote(word for word);
‘Good morning lovely people😍. I am Joe, i live in Kerobokan. Do you have information about job? Like a freelance daily worker. I really need a job, any kind of job such do cleaning small garden, cutting grass or plantation etc. I am not a profesional person just the jobless driver who need to feed my family (5 yo boy) I will do my best as long as i am able to do it. Thank you in advance🙏🙏🙏🙏’

We had had so many posts of people wanting help, asking for food, asking for money. It was endless and was a problem to a level that we could just not fathom. I read Joe’s post as I was scrolling, and I stopped. In a time of total misery, this upbeat character was wishing everyone a good day, explaining that it was important that he supported his family and child and was asking politely if anyone had a job he could do....he would do anything!

I swiftly sent Joe a message on Facebook and wrote to him telling him that I was sorry to hear of his situation like any others. I said I was unable to help him with a job, but I was able to help him with some food for him and his family. So graciously, Joe accepted the offer and came to the office to collect some food packs. Later that evening he sent me a video that he and his son made thanking us so much for our help. I never forgot this.

2.5 years onwards, we were out of “Covid” and starting to recover. We took on a new villa project; Saudara Palm and spent the next 6 months renovation ready to launch. Our villas grew and we welcome new team members in. My next position to fill was that of an on-house driver. I knew I needed to find Joe again.

I spent the following days(3 infact) scrolling through all the Facebook groups I thought he had posted on, trying to find his initial call out for help. Joe had changed his Facebook name, so I was unable to search for the chats we had had earlier to organise food packs for him. I then decided to scroll through ever single conversation I had had with every person on my personal Facebook chat for the past 2.5 years……and then I found him!!

My messenger to Joe;
“Hello Joe, I’m not sure if you remember me, but I am Anna from Saudara Villas. We met on Facebook as you put out a post looking for a job during Covid. We weren’t able to help you with a job then, but we would like to be able to help you with a job now”

A few months later, came to Bali to meet Joe in person. Joe picked me up from the airport and the rest is now history.

Meet JoJo…..the Saudara Villas exclusive in-villa driver who has now been with us for the last 6 months!

HAPPY GALUNGAN 🙏❤️⛩️ 🌸

Galungan is a major Balinese Hindu festival that marks the victory of good over evil.

It is celebrated every 210 days according to the Balinese calendar. During Galungan, Balinese Hindus believe that the spirits of their ancestors return to visit their living relatives. The festival lasts for 10 days, with the pinnacle being on the 7th day when families come together for prayers and offerings at temples and family altars.

The celebration is characterized by beautifully decorated penjor (bamboo poles) lining the streets, traditional dances, and various ceremonies. It is a time of joy, gratitude, and spiritual reflection for the Balinese people.

We’ve just updated it to include the new ⭐️Tourism Tax Levy⭐️ that has been introduced for international tousts arrivals. The IDR 150,000 per person ($15 AUD) has been introduced to support environmental initiatives, cultural preservation projects, and infrastructure improvements.

All these initiatives are aimed at making Bali the best possible place to visit(it’s already amazing) Environmental projects will include cleaning up the waterways, beaches and landfills. 🏖️ 🐢 🏄‍♂️

For holidaymakers, the new 2024 tourism tax means budgeting for an additional expense of IDR 150,000 (about $15 AUD) upon entry into Bali. Every person must pay for this, even children.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting at Saudara Palm who celebrated her 50th birthday with us and nine of her closest friends 🥳

I feel so privileged that we have been able to help with celebrations for peoples most memorable milestones, and experiences. Trusting us to make sure you have a seamless experience from the moment you send that first email enquiry until we drop you back at the airport for your flight home makes us so so happy and honoured.

It’s all hands on deck 🧽

Every few months we will shut down a villa for a complete scrub from top to toe. Fix anything niggly and make sure that everything is in absolute pristine condition for our guest stays.

Meet Ari(for those who haven’t yet been blessed by this woman) She is our Butler and Host at Saudara Palm 🌴 and before there, she launched Saudara Sunshine with us and was the Butler and Host there for many years.

Maintenance, maintenance….its forever never ending in Bali. Harsh and hot climates mean that it’s harder to keep things looking new, but with an absolute dream team like we have, we’re constantly working to make sure everything is as perfect as it can be. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Anna 🤩
