Dear Grand-eurs,
There might be some of you who are the first-timed Bali travelers. Here, we would like to share with you some points that you might need to know before visiting the island of thousand temples:
- Do try street snack called Krupuk.
Krupuk is a deep-fried rice sugar which is usually sold on the streets. Don't worry they are inexpensive and enough to hold your hunger for awhile.
- Don't step on prayer offerings.
Canang or offerings are made of coconut leaf and consist of flowers. These are spiritual offerings that is very integral to Balinese life, culture, and religion. You always find them on the ground and make sure do not step on it.
- Visit temples, markets, and countryside.
The real Bali to enjoy is found through the people, countryside, and culture. Drop by the markets, visit temples, and watch women at the roadside husking rice. Religion is a way of life in Bali. During religion ceremony at the temples, you will see the Balinese dressed in traditional clothing. The prayers and offerings are beautifully crafted.
- Have you ever wondered why Balinese all named Wayan, Made, or Komang?
It is Bali's naming system. It was created to distinguish each person's birthright order in the family. For the firstborn are named 'Wayan', the second eldest is 'Made', and the third is 'Komang' or 'Nyoman', the fourth is 'Ketut' and so. It is used for both men and women. Woman is distinguished by a 'Ni' at the beginning (for example : Ni Wayan, Ni Made, etc) while a man is specified by 'I' (for example : I Wayan, I Made, etc).
Hope a few things that we shared are useful. For those who have been travelling to Bali a lot, you are welcomed to share your experience during your time in Bali in the comment section below for a kind perusal for the first-timed Bali travelers.
