ULUWATU TEMPLE
the Uluwatu temple was built by Mpu Kuturan or Mpu Rajakreta during the reign of the Sri Msula-Masuli husband and wife around the XI century. However, there are interesting facts from the historical remains at Pura Luhur Uluwatu. The ancient remains of this temple are in the form of a temple bracket or Kori Gelung Agung which rises majestically, bordering the Central Jaba area with the temple's innards. It is predicted that this temple has existed since the 8th century. The ancient temple records the Isaka year count with candrasangkala gana sawang gana which means the Isaka year 808 or around 886 AD. So, before Mpu Kuturan came to Bali.
Pura Luhur Uluwatu plays an important role in Bali's palace of the gods. In PadmaBhuana in Bali, Pura Uluwatu is located in the southwest area, where it is a place to worship the god Rudra. Apart from the geographical position, another unique thing about Pura Luhur Uluwatu is the direction of worship which is towards the Southwest. Generally, in several other prahyangans in Bali, the worship faces north and east. When we look to the left before entering the temple there is the Dalem Jurit shrine and you can find 3 Tri Murti monuments, which are a place to worship Lord Shiva Rudra. In Central Java, we look to the left again, there is a water tank which is always filled with water, even in the dry season. This is considered a miracle from Pura Luhur Uluwatu. This is because the Pecatu Village area is an area of calcareous coral hills that relies on rainwater. Because there is a miracle, the water tank is sacred. Usually used for holy water purposes. Then from Central Java, continue on through Kurung Temple. This Kurung Temple is thought to have been built around the 11th century AD if it is connected to the existence of Kurungbersayap Temple in Sakenan Temple. However, there are also those who think that the Kurung Temple with wings like this one exists in East Java, an ancient relic in Sendang Duwur with Candra Sengkala, which is a sign of the Saka year with a sentence in Old Javanese as follows: Gunaning salira tirtha bayu, which means it shows the number of the Saka year 1483 or 1561 AD. .
The winged Kurung Padu Raksa Temple in Sendang Duwur is the same as the Kurung Padu Raksa Temple in Pura Luhur Uluwatu. Thus, it seems more accurate to say that the Kurung Padu Raksa Temple at Pura Luhur Uluwatu was built during the time of Dang Hyang Dwijendra, namely the 16th century. Because it was Dang Hyang Dwijendra who expanded Pura Luhur Uluwatu. After we enter the innards (the inside of the temple) we find the most important building, namely Meru Tumpang Tiga, a place of worship for Lord Shiva Rudra. The other buildings are just complementary buildings, such as the Tajuk where ceremonies are held and the Pawedaan Hall where worship priests lead ceremonies.
