PANTAI JERMAN

Dulunya, pantai ini merupakan pelabuhan Kuta, di situ para pedagang dari luar Bali berlabuh dengan membawa barang dagangan untuk bertransaksi. Menurut catatan Pierre Dubois, dalam kedudukannya sebagai pejabat pemerintah Belanda, yang diizinkan untuk tinggal di daerah Kuta pada tahun 1827.

Dahulu, pelabuhan Kuta merupakan pelabuhan yang yerpenting di Bali Selatan waktu itu. Pada abad 19, Mads Lange seorang syahbandar asal Denmark juga menetap dan mendirikan markas dagang disana. Selama tinggal di Bali, ia menjadi perantara raja-raja di Bali dan belanda. Mads Longe meninggal secara misterius. Kuburan Mads Longe terletak di sebelah konco di pinggir sungai tersebut.

Kini pelabuhan Kuta tersebut sudah tidak ada, sebab abrasi air laut. Namanya pun berubah menjadi Pantai Jerman. Mengapa disebut demikian? Sebab setelah pelabuhan sudah tidak ada, pantai itu berubah menjadi perumahan yang dihuni warga Jerman.

Seiring berkembangnya waktu, pantai lantas diganti menjadi Pantai Segara sebab perumahan tersebut tenggelam karena abrasi. Meski memiliki dua nama, pantai ini lebih dikenal sebagai Pantai Jerman.
