Hi all!
This is the sight you will see when you arrive on Gili Trawangan (or Meno or Air)

As tourism returns it’s important for tourists to understand a few things.

- local law doesn’t allow the use of motor vehicles. Don’t blame the drivers or us.
- we’ve all just finished a VERY challenging 2.5 years. Be kind
- don’t overload the ponies!
- don’t be cheap! The average ride is 100,000 IDR that’s about $5-7 usd . If you can afford an international flight and hotel you can afford less than $10
- monthly costs of caring for a horse are minimum 1,500,000 IDR that’s about $100 usd
- most drivers own 2-3 horses and use them for short 4-6 hour shifts. That means they need $200 to $300 just for horse care. Not to mention their living expenses and feeding their family
- the horses are fed/watered 3 times daily. They generally aren’t given water while working as most refuse to drink plain water. They are raised with it mixed with their food
- they have stalls at home where they rest at night. They ARE NOT left in harness! That’s a stupid rumor
- they all are licensed and get inspected 3-5 times annually
- horses get vet checks once or twice yearly
- IF you witness a problem don’t confront the driver. Note the # of the Horsecart or the tag number and send us a private message. We will contact their boss
- these horses/ponies aren’t pets. Many bite as they are mostly stallions
