Our area of expertise is eastern Indonesia with well over 50 trips – private and commercial – to Papua. We have long and deep relationships with all the local guides and we speak the Indonesian language fluently. Booking a tour with us not only gives you an amazing birdwatching tour, but also gives you a deep insight into local culture and you make friends for life. We have a few itineraries, but

we also custom make itineraries to your liking. We are experienced travellers who have lived and travelled in Indonesia since 2001. Normally our birding trips are from 10-30 days and we can custom make a travel according to your specific wishes. We are fluent in English, French, Swedish and Indonesian which makes the travels off the beaten track smooth and enjoyable. If you'd like to come with us for an orchid watching travel we'll arrange that. There are some really amazing orchid species in Papua. Maybe you want to go for the parrots or the Birds of Paradise?

One of the least known and photographed parrot species from New Guinea, the Blue-collared Parrot Geoffroyus simplex. We don't know much about the species and it is still not a common one either.
Often heard while flying very high in similar behaviour as the Red-cheeked parrot.
Arfak Mountains, Vogelkop, Papua, Indonesia

Our Sulawesi-Halmahera is ended today with a couple from UK. These Maleo are one of the most wanted species to see. We succeed in seeing 37 individuals which came to their breeding ground in a beach.

Yes, this bird dig a hole in a sandy beach, lay their eggs, and let the heat of the earth helps to hatch the eggs. They are megapodes and only live in Sulawesi Island.

In their peak season, there can be a hundred individuals come to this beach. What an amazing scene to witness.

Here is a short video sequence of a Moluccan or Seram cockatoo doing what it does best.....
This behaviour can happen for different reasons such as gathering the flock and calling a partner like in this short video, we could hear other cockatoos a bit far, or just warning others of the threat which in most cases coming from humans. Sometimes the calls or this beautiful music is just to invite others for feeding.
It was taken handheld thus the shaking on Seram island, Maluku, Indonesia.

Travelling to the Tanimbars to see the endemic birds is a great experience especially the beautiful and unique Goffin's or Tanimbar cockatoo. The trails are mostly flat and the birding is rewarding a few kilometres outside the capital city Saumlaki.
Here is a short video of these Cockatoos or Corellas in their element. It was taken during one of our parrot trips which focused on the islands with the unique parrot species.
This trip included Sumba island, Halmahera island, Seram island, Jayapura region and finished on Waigeo island.
This pair was reluctant to leave the tree as they had a nest that needed protection from other parrots.

This is the Red-cheeked parrot Geoffroyus geoffroyi.
There are 16 accepted subspecies. I had the chance to see and photograph a few of them, 11 to be exact and all I could realize there are minor differences between them. The sound of all of them is nearly identical.
The species has not been kept in aviculture more than a few times as it is prone to succumb to stress during capture. The diet is similar to the species that feed mostly on fruits, berries, leaves, flowers and bark.... such as Eclectus parrots and Great-billed parrots.
Here are just a few of these subspecies:
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi floresianus from Sumba island.
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi timorlaoensis from Tanimbars islands.
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi jobiensis from Yapen island.
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi mysoriensis from Biak island.
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi rhodops from Buru island.
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi pucherani Waigeo island.
- Geoffroyus geoffroyi minor from North New Guinea.

Going for the Raggiana Bird of Paradise in Wasur National Park with mattresses and some provisions for our 2 nights stay.
The mattresses are left there for future visitors.
The landscape is breath-taking and most of it reminds me of the Australian Outback with the tall termite mounts, the savannas, the Wallabies, the parrots and of course the Kookaburras.
