Plaosan Temple

Plaosan temple that was built by Rakai Pikatan for his beautiful wife, Pramudyawardani has some uniqueness compared to other temples, namely its twin main temple and the terrace with smooth surface. In this temple, there are Vajrapani, Amitbha, and Prajnaparamitha figures.

After visiting Prambanan temple, you should not rush to your hotel, because close to the beautiful Hindu temple, you can also see other interesting temples. Moving 1 kilometer northwards, you will find Plaosan Temple. The architect of the temple that is located in Bugisan village of Prambanan sub-district is combination of Hindu and Buddha.

Ratu Boko Ancient Palace

There is a legend about Ratu Boko and Bandung Bondowoso. Ratu Boko, the father of Lara Jonggrang is a giant who lives in the palace in the hall of this site. He is a giant who likes to eat humans and Bandung Bondowoso is a knight who kills him. The link between the famous Legend of Ratu Boko and the original Ratu Boko site was studied by Dutch archaeologist N.J. Krom. He tries to find out whether the story is based on a real or not existing kingdom. According to a report written by Krom, there is an inscription bearing the name Nagari used by the Sailendra family. The inscription is found inside this Ratu Boko site.

Ratu Boko is Located about 3 km south of Prambanan. Ratu Boko is situated atop of a hill ± 195.97 m above sea level. Ratu Boko is built during the 8th century AD by the Buddhist Syailendra Dynasty, but then the Hindu Mataram kings took over the place. This take over makes Kraton Ratu Boko is full of Hindu and Buddhist references.

Borobudur Temple

This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha.

Prambanan Temple

Built on the ninth Century, Prambanan Temple is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia. The first mention of Prambanan was in the Syiwagrha Inscription (856AD). With three main temples for the Trimurti; Shiva the destroyer of the universe, Vishnu the keeper of the universe, and Brahma the creator of the universe. Back in the glory days of the old Mataram Kingdom, Prambanan is used as a Candi Agung for various royal and religious ceremonies.

The high structures are typical of Hindu architecture, and the plan of the temple complex is a Mandala, as is Borobudur. As a symbol of the Hindu cosmos, the temple is vertically divided into three parts, both vertically and in plan. The three part is divided into Jaba/Bhurloka, Tengahan/Bhuvarloka, and Njeron/Svarloka.

At the Garbagriha (innermost sanctum) of this temple sits a three meters statue of Shiva. Prambanan as a Hindu Temple was made High and slim compared to Borobudur, with the main Shiva shrine stands 47 meters in the middle of the complex surrounded with smaller temples. Prambanan has a bas-relief on the inner side of the gate around the three main shrine. The bas-relief tells the story about Ramayana and can be read from the east gate clockwise around the inner compound.
