Another day, another beach to find crabs 🦀🐚

When travelling with kids, coming up with creative ways to keep them entertained is vital for an enjoyable holiday!

With so many shelly beaches and reefs around the bukit, one of our favourite go-to's is finding hermit crabs ... after salvaging a plastic bottle on the beach, we spend the next couple of hours finding crabs. We analyse their spectacular colours and the shells they've chosen to make their homes. Our youngest practices his counting, and they take turns at who gets the crab next crab in their bottle, a good way to practice patience and sharing. When we're finally suncooked and hungry, we release the crabs back to their natural environments and take the bottle home to be properly disposed of.

Now for an afternoon by the pool 💦💙

You should never leave as soon as the sun sets ... these were the colours over the night before last, around 30 minutes after we bid farewell to the sun 🌅

All those little lights on the horizon are local fishing boats that head out each evening from Bay. As the sun sets, hundreds of these local boats journey out for the night, the fish are attracted to the light on the boat, and come to the surface where they are caught (usually) in nets. As the fishermen fill their crates with fish, they make their way back to the bay where they sell their fish. On a good evening, they can start heading in around midnight; on other nights, you'll see the last of the boats making their way back in as you wake up.

If you don't mind an authentic scent, the Jimbaran Bay fish markets are a sensational experience to wander through and see the incredible array of seafood these hardy fishermen have spent the night catching.
