MOUNT PLEASANT & KOPI SUA WALKING TOUR
Mon, 31st March 2025
9am to 12pm

Step into a hidden gem of Singapore’s history with our Mount Pleasant & Kopi Sua Walking Tour. Nestled away from the hustle and bustle, Mount Pleasant Road is one of Singapore’s five coveted “Heritage Roads,” a title earned through its timeless charm and rich, though often overlooked, past.

This scenic road, lined with majestic black-and-white mansions, offers a glimpse into Singapore’s colonial era under the British Empire. Yet, beneath its serene surface lies a history of fierce battles fought during World War II.

One standout landmark is the stately Senior Police Officers’ Mess (SPOM) at 153 Mount Pleasant Road, a proud reminder of the road’s storied past.

As you stroll along this tranquil route, you’ll be captivated by the crisp air and lush greenery, making it a perfect escape from the city’s fast pace. The walk to Kopi Sua (aka: Coffee Hill) adds an extra layer of discovery, offering a fascinating peek into the area’s lesser-known heritage.

Meeting Point: We’ll gather at Marymount MRT Station at 9am on Mon, 31st March 2025. From there, a short bus ride will take us to the junction of Mount Pleasant Road and Thomson Road, where our journey begins.

End Point: The tour concludes at the bus stop in front of Fun’s Florist along Thomson Road, around 11.30am or 12noon.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply curious about Singapore’s hidden stories, this walking tour promises a unique and enriching experience. Don’t miss the chance to explore one of Singapore’s most picturesque and historically significant roads.

CONCUBINES & MISTRESSES: BUKIT PASOH WALKING TOUR
Sun, 30th March 2025
9am to 12pm

Step into the intriguing world of consorts, concubines, mistresses, secret lovers, and wives – all bound by love, affection, and the complexities of human relationships. While the wife held the most esteemed role in the family, others played their part in the shadows, often as ladies of pleasure.

This practice, though seemingly old-fashioned, has roots that stretch back to the days of emperors and kings and continues to echo in modern times.

In Singapore, Bukit Pasoh was once a hotspot for such arrangements. Today, this charming street is lined with beautifully conserved shophouses and buildings, but in its heyday, it was home to women who captivated the hearts (and wallets) of wealthy men. Their lives were far from simple – mastering the Art of Affection & Care was no easy feat.

Join us on a leisurely stroll through Bukit Pasoh as we unravel the stories of these women and explore the meanings behind terms like consort, concubine, mistress, and more. Along the way, you’ll discover Instagram-worthy spots and imagine what life was like in this fascinating era.

We’ll meet at Outram Park MRT Station (Exit 4, street level, towards Dorsett Hotel) at 9am on 30th March 2025. The tour will conclude at Eng Hoon Street, another historic “Mistresses Lane,” with a short bus ride from Bukit Pasoh Road (please bring your bus card). Expect to finish by 11.30am or 12pm.

Don’t miss this chance to explore a hidden chapter of Singapore’s history – where love, luxury, and secrets intertwined. Bring your curiosity, your camera, and perhaps a dictionary, as we delve into the captivating world of Bukit Pasoh.

KEONG SAIK, JAPANESE STREET & FLANDERS SQUARE RED-LIGHT DISTRICT WALK
Sat, 29th March 2025
9am to 1pm

Join us for a thought-provoking and eye-opening walking tour that delves into the evolving world of Singapore’s s*x industry and s*x tourism. This isn’t just a glimpse into a hidden world – it’s a chance to understand the lives of those often marginalised by society.

From the polished professionalism of modern s*x workers to the gritty reality of street walkers, this tour explores both sides of the story.

Discover how the first shipload of s*x workers arrived in Singapore and how the industry has transformed into the digital age. Along the way, we’ll visit brothels that have closed their doors and others that are reopening, including those in Flanders Square and Petain Road (Kin Chio Kar).

This is your chance to step inside a real brothel without judgment, guided by Uncle Chris on what is, at its heart, an innocent and educational experience.

Ladies, this is also an opportunity to see firsthand what life is like for s*x workers in Kin Chio Kar. The tour is a fairly long walk, starting at Keong Saik Road and ending at Flanders Square, so please consider your comfort before signing up.

Please note: this is an adults-only tour and is not suitable for children.

We’ll meet at 9am at the coffeeshop on the corner of Neil Road and Keong Saik Road. Bring your MRT card, as we’ll take the train to Farrer Park Station. The tour will end around 1pm (or 1.30pm at the latest).

As a poignant reminder of the darker side of this world, we’ll pass by 22 Flanders Square, now a Japanese restaurant. It was here in 2008 that Coco Ng, a s*x worker, was tragically murdered. Her case remains unsolved, and her story serves as a sobering reflection on the risks faced by those in the industry.

This tour is not just a walk – it’s a journey into a rarely seen part of Singapore’s history and present. Join us for an unforgettable experience.

Thurs, 27th March 2025
7pm to 10pm

Short on time but eager to explore? Join us for a condensed yet captivating walking tour through Geylang’s Red-Light District, from Lorong 12 to Lorong 18.

Designed for those with busy schedules, this tour offers a streamlined experience with less narration and more time for personal exploration after the tour concludes.

Meet your guide, Uncle Chris, at 7pm sharp next to Sichuan Chef, just outside Aljunied MRT (take a left after exiting the gates). Over the next 2.5 to 3 hours, Uncle Chris will lead you through the vibrant streets of Geylang, offering an informative and thought-provoking look into one of Singapore’s most intriguing neighbourhoods.

This tour is not for the faint-hearted. It delves into the complexities of Geylang’s adult entertainment scene, exploring the distinctions between “cheap s*x” and “high-class scandals” and even touching on the realities of the industry. With an open mind, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of this often-misunderstood community.

Please note: This is a highly adult-themed tour, featuring explicit and graphic discussions. It may not be suitable for everyone, but for those curious about the hidden layers of Geylang, it promises to be an unforgettable experience.

The tour will wrap up by 9:30pm (or 10pm at the latest), leaving you with plenty of time to explore the area further or catch the last train home from Aljunied MRT.

Ready to see Geylang in a whole new light? Join us on 27th March 2025 – and don’t forget to bring an open mind!

GEYLANG RED-LIGHT DISTRICT WALKING TOUR
Thurs, 13th March 2025
7pm to 11pm

Discover the hidden layers of Singapore’s most infamous district on this, the ‘Mother of All Red-Light District Walking Tours’. This updated, full-length experience is not just a walk – it’s an eye-opening journey into a world rarely discussed openly.

Led by your guide, Uncle Chris, this tour promises to be both informative and, dare we say, educational. With his candid and engaging style, Uncle Chris doesn’t shy away from tackling sensitive topics head-on.

From the stark contrasts between “cheap s*x” and “high-class scandals” to the realities of the trade, no subject is off-limits. Expect honest, unfiltered insights that will leave you with a deeper understanding of this complex world.

We’ll explore the streets from Lorong 12 to Lorong 24A, uncovering the history, culture, and evolution of Geylang. This tour is as much about the district’s re-awakening as it is about its past. It’s also a rare opportunity for younger adults to learn about a topic often left undiscussed in family settings.

A word of caution: this is a highly adult-themed tour. The content is explicit, and some may find it confronting. An open mind is essential.

Meeting Point: Aljunied MRT (next to Sichuan Chef) at 7pm on Thurs, 13th Mar 2025. Wear comfortable shoes, bring an umbrella (rain adds a certain charm to the experience!), and come ready to explore.

If a shorter version suits you better, join the “compressed” tour on 27th March 2025. But for the full, immersive experience, this is the one not to miss.

See you there – let’s walk, learn, and uncover the stories of Geylang together.

FORT CANNING: THE FORBIDDEN HILL WALKING TOUR
Sun, 9th March 2025
9am to 11.30am

Step into the hidden layers of Fort Canning Hill, a place steeped in history, mystery, and untold stories. While many know it as the "Forbidden Hill," few have explored its lesser-known tales. This isn’t just another tour about kings and conquerors – we’re diving deeper.

On this walk, we’ll uncover the everyday lives of ordinary people who shaped this iconic hill. From the forgotten cemetery that once graced its slopes to the young explorers who rest here, Fort Canning holds secrets that go beyond its manicured beauty. Did you know this hill was once part of Raffles’ sprawling botanic gardens, stretching all the way to what is now Funan?

We’ll explore myths and truths, like the story of Chow Ah Chi, the carpenter-turned-scout who allegedly received a residence from Sir Stamford Raffles. Was it fact or fiction? Join us to debate and discover.

This isn’t just a nature walk or a war history tour – it’s an all-encompassing journey through time. We’ll touch on the high and mighty, but also shine a light on the unsung heroes and everyday folk who walked these paths before us.

Meeting Point: Dhoby Ghaut MRT, Exit B (street level)
End Point: Funan (yes, the vibrant hub we know today!)

Spaces are limited, so book your spot now for a morning of discovery, stories, and fresh perspectives. Let’s uncover the soul of Fort Canning together.

DISCOVER PERANAKAN CULTURE AT EMERALD HILL
Sat, 8th March 2025
9am to 12pm

Step into the vibrant world of Peranakan culture with us! Following the success of the 2008 TV series ‘The Little Nonya’, which captivated audiences across Singapore and Asia, the upcoming Mediacorp production Emerald Hill is set to premiere on Netflix on 10th March 2025. To celebrate, join us for a special walking tour of Emerald Hill on 8th March – just before the crowds descend!

The Peranakan culture, with its rich history and unique traditions, has long been a symbol of refinement and elegance. But how did it all begin? Some trace its origins to the arrival of immigrants after the founding of modern Singapore, while others believe it started with the legendary Hang Li Po, who became the fifth wife of the Sultan of Malacca in the 15th century.

Yet, evidence suggests that influences from as far back as the 10th century have shaped what we now know as Peranakan culture.

Once considered a mark of prestige, being Peranakan meant you were “one cut above the rest.” However, the culture began to decline after World War II, and by the 1970s and 1980s, the Nonyas and Babas – the last true-blue Peranakans – were fading into history.

While few live the traditional Peranakan lifestyle today, their legacy lives on in their exquisite cuisine, intricate fashion, and strong sense of community.

This tour is a chance to explore the heart of Peranakan heritage at Emerald Hill, a charming enclave that beautifully preserves this unique culture. From the iconic sarong kebaya to the tantalising flavours of Peranakan dishes, we’ll uncover the stories behind this fascinating way of life.

We’ll meet at 9am at Somerset MRT (next to the Citibank ATM) and end our journey at Scotts Road, near Sheraton Towers and Newton Hawker Centre.

While Emerald Hill may be a fictional series, our tour is rooted in facts, not fiction. Together, we’ll separate truth from myth and legend, and you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation of this remarkable culture.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with history, enjoy great company, and celebrate the enduring spirit of the Peranakan community. See you there!

HOLLAND VILLAGE & WESSEX ESTATE WALKING TOUR
Sun, 2nd March 2025
9am to 11.30am

Step into the vibrant and bohemian world of Holland Village, affectionately known as “Holland V”. This lively precinct, with its colourful streets and friendly atmosphere, has long been a favourite haunt for locals and visitors alike.

While it exudes an air of affluence, its charm remains accessible to all. On weekends, the area comes alive with merry-makers, drawn to its unique blend of trendy cafés, boutique shops, and buzzing energy.

Holland Village gained even more fame when a popular local TV series, aptly titled Holland V, showcased its allure with an all-star cast. Years on, the neighbourhood continues to evolve, yet retains its distinctive character.

On this tour, we’ll stroll through its storied streets, uncovering its history and answering the burning question: does Holland Village have any connection to the Netherlands?

Just a short walk away lies the serene Wess*x Estate, a stark contrast to the lively vibe of Holland V. Steeped in history, this tranquil enclave is home to iconic British colonial Black & White houses, exuding rustic charm and old-world elegance.

As we meander through its peaceful lanes, you’ll feel transported to a bygone era. Along the way, we’ll also pass by Tanglin Halt, adding another layer of nostalgia to our journey.

Our tour begins at 9am at Holland Village MRT Station and concludes at the charming Colbar Café in Wess*x Estate around 11.30am. This hidden gem, with its nostalgic vibe and hearty fare, is the perfect spot to unwind after our exploration.

Did you know that Teochew influence extended beyond Hougang? Venture back in time to Stephen Lee Road, a now-vanished Teochew settlement nestled in the heart of Mandai. Once a jungle-like area, this enclave holds a poignant tale of resilience and adaptation. Discover the unique quirks and enduring contributions of the Teochew people, and gain a deeper appreciation for their role in shaping Singapore’s cultural landscape.

QUEENSTOWN & RIDOUT ROAD HERITAGE WALK
Sat,1st Feb 2025
9am to 11.30am

Celebrate the Chinese New Year season with an auspicious walk through two of Singapore’s most exclusive districts. Join us for a tour of Queenstown and Ridout Road, where history meets modernity, and charm blends with exclusivity.

Our journey begins at Queenstown MRT station. Queenstown, one of Singapore’s oldest residential estates, was originally developed to house a growing population.

Today, the area is undergoing a remarkable transformation, making it the perfect place to explore the evolution of Singapore’s urban landscape. From Queenstown MRT, we’ll stroll through parts of Margaret Drive, where you’ll marvel at the towering, sky-high flats built by Singapore’s Housing Development Board (HDB). These architectural feats are not only stunning but are already attracting substantial resale offers.

Margaret Drive has a distinct charm that’s hard to resist. If the group agrees, we’ll take a lift up to the highest floor of one of these skyscrapers for a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the surrounding neighbourhood.

Next, we’ll venture to Ridout Road, offering a stark contrast. This serene enclave is renowned for its privacy and the grandeur of its historic Black & White mansions. As we wander through this exclusive area, you’ll uncover stories of its heritage and the legacy of these stately homes. The tranquillity of Ridout Road offers a different kind of allure, one steeped in elegance and history.

This walking tour provides an engaging look at Singapore’s most sought-after real estate, from the soaring HDB flats of Margaret Drive to the majestic mansions of Ridout Road. Discover the charm, history, and prestige that make these districts so coveted.

We’ll meet on Sat, 1st Feb 2025, at 9:00am at Queenstown MRT station. Please take Exit B to your left, head downstairs, and find me at Taxi Stand F44. (You’ll recognise me by my Tourist Guide badge.) The tour concludes at the junction of Holland Road and Pierce Road.

Come ready to walk, explore, and immerse yourself in the fascinating stories of Queenstown and Ridout Road.

THE ROOTS OF EXCELLENCE: NUS & BEYOND
Sun, 2nd February 2025
9am to 11.30am

Join Uncle Chris for a scenic journey through Singapore’s educational legacy and, at the same time, explore the evolution of Singapore’s educational system. While I can’t claim to understand today’s school syllabuses in Science, Technology, Mathematics, or the Humanities, I can promise an in-depth look at how our institutions of learning have grown and shaped the region.

There’s a reason travel agencies bring foreigners on tours of Singapore’s universities. NUS (National University of Singapore) and NTU (Nanyang Technological University) are renowned across Asia and beyond. But unlike those tour groups, we’ll steer clear of their buses and canteens – no intruding on students’ spaces here! Instead, we’ll enjoy a scenic walking tour that delves into the history and achievements of our universities, focusing on NUS, which takes a friendlier stance towards visitors compared to NTU.

We’ll uncover what makes NUS one of Asia’s most sought-after universities, known for its rigorous standards and vibrant campus life. I’ve seen the hard work firsthand – my two daughters studied there in the early 2000s, and I’m sure you’ll gain a new appreciation for what it takes to thrive in such a competitive environment.

Our journey begins on Sun, 2nd Feb 2025, at 9am, outside Clementi MRT. The tour will end at the Lee Kong Chian Museum, likely around 11 to 11:30am.

After the tour, I highly recommend visiting the museum to marvel at its priceless collection of dinosaur skeletons – rumoured to have cost between $8 to $12 million! We’ll discuss these ancient giants and more when we meet.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the story of Singapore’s educational excellence. Let’s walk, learn, and uncover the secrets behind our world-class institutions together. See you there!

How often do we walk past our historical gems without a second thought? It’s time to change that! During our walk, we’ll take the time to appreciate the beauty around us while diving into the fascinating history of places like the Old Supreme Court, which, surprisingly, was built in 1939.

It’s incredible how much our city has evolved since then, especially as it faced the challenge of providing housing for a booming population.

This tour is also a wonderful chance for our senior citizens to reminisce about the past, while younger participants gain valuable insights about the Singapore River and the significant events that unfolded there.

Plus, you’ll discover the intriguing dynamics between Sir Stamford Raffles and William Farquhar, a historical rivalry that adds depth to our understanding of Singapore's history.

So, grab your walking shoes and get ready for an informative and delightful morning. We’ll wrap up by noon, but we promise you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for our city and its heritage. We can’t wait to see you there!

GEYLANG RED-LIGHT DISTRICT WALKING TOUR
Thurs, 23rd Jan 2025
7pm to 10pm

Here’s a chance to peek behind the curtain at a fascinating and complex part of our city: Geylang.

Our little adventure kicks off at 7pm and wraps up by 9.30, definitely no later than 10pm. This engaging itinerary covers the vibrant streets from Lorong 12 to Lorong 18. And don’t worry, if you’re tight on time, this condensed tour has fewer stops for lengthy explanations, giving you more freedom to explore on your own afterwards.

Once we finish, you’ll have plenty of time to wander the neighbourhood and soak it all in – or grab a quick bite – before heading to Aljunied MRT to catch your train home.

Your tour guide, Uncle Chris, is all set to deliver a thought-provoking and, dare I say, educational experience. I promise to navigate the intriguing differences between “cheap s*x” and “high-class scandals,” all while keeping it respectful.

We'll stroll through the bustling streets and take a closer look at the lives and stories that inhabit this district. Plus, I’ll inform you of what a customer might encounter – just in case you’re ever curious!

A quick heads-up: this tour is strictly for adults, and you’ll need to approach the subject matter with an open mind. We’ll use some frank language that might not suit everyone, but that’s part of the experience!

So, mark your calendars and meet me at Aljunied MRT at 7pm on Thurs, 23rd Jan 2025. I’ll be waiting for you next to Nenek Place. Let’s uncover the stories and nuances of Geylang together.
