We have adapted the term backpacker, which is a person who travels the world carrying his backpack, to birdpacker, as a person travelling around the Indonesian archipelago to see the beauty of birds and preserve their population in nature. From 2014, local birders and local birding guides gathered to spread their love for the beauty of Indonesian birds to local people and all over the world. In 2

016, we joined a project called Burungnesia, a local birding guide application. All the data collected in this application will contribute to Atlas Burung Indonesia team’s work to map birds’ distribution in Indonesia.

Siang-siang di bulan puasa, melihat burung ini membuat mimin ingin menyiram dengan santan dan gula jawa. Warna dominan kuning sedikit hitam menjadikan burung ini mirip pisang kepok yang sudah terlewat matang. Ngomong-ngomong soal puasa, sudah bolong berapa ges?

Kucica hutan, adalah salah satu burung yang nyaris hilang di alam akibat rantai permintaan pasar yang sangat tinggi.
Beruntung sekali kunjungan kami ke Kalimantan beberapa bulan lalu bisa menjumpai burung ini. Bahkan memotretnya. Bahkan menikmati kemerduan suaranya sepanjang hari di sekitar mess ranger PT. RLU selama ekspedisi.
Lokasinya juga gak jauh, cuma 10 jam dari bandara terdekat di Samarinda 😁.

Probably the most beautiful sunbird in Greater Sunda. Not an everyday visual as it more prefer hiding in the dense of tropical under shrub. Very lucky to have this one on this openly sighting.

Red-bearded Bee-eater
One of the very friendly birds to be photographed while in Jambi. Its green color makes iy easy to be overlooked. Fortunately he has striking red beard. Quiet uncommon. But once it shows upn it can linger in front of the caneras. Has strange song not like the song of birds in general. But that's exactly what makes it even more beautiful.

One of our best sighting while in Jambi. Uncommon in any kind of habitat. But its highly remarkable song helps us spot it.

Rhinoceros hornbill
B.r. silvestris which is javan race endemic is quiet different with other ones. Its horn horn is lightly stright and less red color. It picks a twigs as it builds a comfortable nest for the babies.

Black-and-red Broadbill
One of a common bird that we often see while in Kalimantan. Named as in bahasa Sempur-hujan sungai, because it likes to be around the river. The nest always built over a river. Not hard to take a picture. Just go near river and call. They will find you.

Just finished 5 days birding trip in East Java. Nailed more than 40 targeted species during the trip, with the highlight:

1. Javan White-eye

3. Asian Wolly-necked Stork
4. Wreathed Hornbill

Black-browed Babbler (Melacocincla perspicillata) since "lost" for more than 170 years was found again by Muhammad Suranto and Selamet in 2020.

For the past two months, our team led by Panji Gusti A. conducted a re-search in the eastern Meratus Mountains area, South Kalimantan to study the ecological and biological aspects that are very close to unknown.

On the first day of the visit, the team got the first photo in nature, along with a recording of the sound of this enigmatic bird.

The search continues to expand to determine its natural distribution. Hopefully in the next few months there will be important ecological information that can be collected by the team.

This fieldwork was held funded by Oriental Bird Club (OBC) and the American Bird Concervancy (ABC).
In collaboration with , Dinas Kehutanan Kalimantan Selatan, KPH Cantung.

Elang tikus adalah burung pemangsa berukuran kecil. dinamakan elang tikus karena makanan utamanya adalah tikus. Salah satu kepiawaian dia dalam berburu adalah kemampuannya terbang statis atau disebut juga hovering. Kemampuan ini memudahkan dia dalam mengincar mangsanya yang berukuran sangat kecil. Beruntung jalan-jalan kami ke Baluran bisa menemui sarang aktif elang tikus. Padahal sangat jarang sekali perjumpaan sarang elang ini di Indonesia. Sekalian saja kita buatkan hiding spot untuk merekam momen langka ini. Baik-baik di sana ya, kus. Kita akan jumpa lagi kalau anak-anakmu sudah mulai besar.
