We have adapted the term backpacker, which is a person who travels the world carrying his backpack, to birdpacker, as a person travelling around the Indonesian archipelago to see the beauty of birds and preserve their population in nature. From 2014, local birders and local birding guides gathered to spread their love for the beauty of Indonesian birds to local people and all over the world. In 2

016, we joined a project called Burungnesia, a local birding guide application. All the data collected in this application will contribute to Atlas Burung Indonesia team’s work to map birds’ distribution in Indonesia.

Temminck’s Babbler
Pellorneum pyrrogenys

Small babbler found throughout Borneo and Java. Preferring primary forest and forest edge, their habitat ranges from lowland to montane up to 1500 masl in Borneo. Like most babblers, they often forages on the forest floor and bushes where they search for insects such as ants and large insects. Temmninck’s babbler built cup nest made of bush, tussock and aerial roots.

Yellow-spectacled White-eye
Heleia wallacei

Yellow-spectacled White-eye is a species of white-eyes found all over Lesser Sunda Islands from Sumbawa, Flores to Sumba. Like most white-eyes, they have olive-green upperbody parts with grey underparts. They lack the white eyering, rather they have thin eyering. This alongside the orange-yellow forehead distinguishes them with conspecific _Zosterops_ white-eyes. Heleia wallacei can be found in multitudes of habitat, from coastal savannas, dry scrub, woodlands to mixed agroforests.

White-crowned forktail
Enicurus leschenaulti

Known for being synonymous whistling noise in forests with rivers, white-crowned forktail are passerines related to flycatchers, shamas and chats. They often found foraging for insects and other small invertebrates around rivers, lakes and hillstreams. White-crowned forktail are distinguished from Sunda forktail (E. velatus) which often they share their habitat with by their larger size, distinctive white crown and small crest. They’re found throughout Southeast Asia to Sumatra, Borneo, Java and Bali

Maleo senkawor
Macrocephalon maleo

This Indonesian endemic megapode is one of the most critically endangered bird species due to its declining population and limited range. This large ground bird inhabits lowland, hill forest and coasts of Sulawesi. Like most megapodes, maleos lay their eggs in mounds made of warm sands or volcanic soils

Green Peafowl
Pavo muticus

Found in open woodland, savanna, shrublands, and forest edge, these birds often be seen close to water like streams and rivers. Male peafowls have extravagant tail feathers and glossy green plumage that it uses to attract and impress the more drab-colored females during mating season.

This bird inhabits primary and secondary lowland forests up to 1000 meters above sea level. Tends to stay still and perch on low trees. Unlike most kingfishers, Sulawesi Lilac Kingfisher preys on insects.

Black-naped Monarch
Hypothymis azurea

One of our friend while we are birding at Royal Lestari Utama conservation area. Inhabit dense forests, semi-evergreen forests, deciduous forests, peat forests, old-growth forests, secondary forests. Bright blue on the upper body and dull white on the lower body makes it easy to identify.
