Snuggled in a wooded setting among the rich quiet farmlands of the Golden Vale by the River Maigue, Adare is a model village dating from the time of the Norman conquest. It has been home to the Earls of Dunraven for over three centuries. Adare Heritage Centre is located in the heart of the village and offers a guide through the history of this unique and beautiful area. Adare Heritage Centre hosts

an interactive Historical Exhibition which traces the story of Adare’s many stone buildings and picturesque ruins. Guided tours of Adare Village and Desmond Castle, one of the few remaining authentic Norman Castles in Ireland, are operated from the Centre. The Dovecot Restaurant, the Centre’s 80 seater Bistro, offers breakfast, lunch and tasty homemade cakes. With shopping areas and the village Tourist Office on site, Adare Heritage Centre is a must for every visitor.

From June to September, join us every day at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, or 4pm for a one-hour journey through history. Tours start and finish at the Adare Heritage Centre, with a free 5-minute shuttle to the castle.

The late Harry Wilson, a resident of Adare who won an All-Ireland hurling medal for Limerick in 1941, will be honored in his hometown this weekend. The event is organized by Tom Healy Jr. as a tribute to his own father, Tom Healy Sr.
