The distraught family of a much-loved funeral director who passed away suddenly last year are appealing for help in finding his cherished jewellery stolen in a robbery from his home yesterday.

The jewellery of the late Tommy Mullen was among items taken when thieves broke into the family home at Ballyfallon, Athboy, between 1pm and 2.30pm.

Tommy was hugely respected in Athboy and surrounding areas for his professionalism and caring personality, especially with families of the bereaved who he met through his 27 year old funeral directors.

His tie pin, wedding ring, a gold cross and his gran's claddagh ring that he always wore were placed beside his picture at his bedside when they were heartlessly taken.

"They are not worth anything but they are worth everything to his family because he wore them always," said his son-in-law Tommie Flanagan.

"His wife and children are devastated that they are gone and we are appealing to anyone who noticed something around the area on the Kildalkey Road at the time or to anyone who may be offered the jewellery for sale to please, please contact Kells gardai on 046 9280820 or the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
