A handsome period country house, originally built in the early 1700s in Queen Anne style, Sandbrook House sits in 25 acres of mature parkland on the Wicklow/Carlow border. The perfect place for a relaxed family party, a significant birthday celebration or an intimate wedding, Sandbrook House is available for private and exclusive hire, either on a self-catering basis, or fully staffed. Surrounded
by lush green lands and gardens, the inviting house is full of character and stylish in an easy way, where the lovely interiors are an eclectic blend of antique and contemporary furniture, carefully chosen fabrics and intriguing art from all over the world. Owned by the Bielenberg family, who settled in Carlow in 1948 after World War II, each of the many paintings, photographs and sculptures throughout has a story or memory connecting to the extended family. That sense of authentic family comfort and care is also clear from the impeccable and generous hospitality at the heart of Sandbrook, delivered by local woman and house manager Vera Brennan, along with her own extended family. Attention to detail is an essential part of the polished but cosy Sandbrook experience, with log fires burning in the hearths and fresh flowers from the gardens scenting the air throughout the house. Vera herself is an excellent cook, and the menus showcase home-grown, local, seasonal produce, as well as the glorious added treat of wine and olive oil from Sandbrook's sister estate in Tuscany.
