Deep Sea Angling & Wildlife Tours
Angling:Baltimore offers a great base for angling off the Irish south coast as it is not long before you are on fishing grounds which yield everything from mackerel, common skate to blue shark and in season Tuna. Wildlife Tours from Baltimore have been a well proven success with species like porpoise seal, common dolphin ,minke whale, humpback and Fin whales being se

en regularly, Orca's and albino humpback whales among other species have also been recorded from Baltimore.recently

Our boat is a catamaran which was specifically built for passenger use and is an ideal platform for both fishing and wildlife watching. The Skipper and owner Kieran Collins is born and reared in Baltimore and has spent all his life at sea in one capacity or another ,he is fully trained and has all license relevant to the job and more,he is also a member of Baltimore Lifeboat crew.

The Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival took place place last weekend. The stormy weather meant that we had to cancel Shark day on Thursday and the first ground fishing day on Friday. Thanks to the boats and skippers who took part and to the boats from Kinsale that couldn’t make it because of the weather.
Thanks to our sponsors for your continued support.
Thanks to the organising committee for all the work that was put in and all those that helped out to keep this wonderful festival going.
Thanks to all the anglers who took part in trying conditions and kept positive throughout. It makes it all worthwhile.
This year the Baltimore Deep Sea Angling Festival is 58 years running. It is an honour and a privilege for me to play my small part in keeping this going in the footsteps of my predecessors Nick Dent, Pat Fehily, Pete Smith and Teddy Browne to name a few.
We will be posting up more photos and results in due course.
Thanks
Kieran

The bluefin tuna season is up and running in Baltimore. There are a lot of fine fish around when we can get out at them. The weather was keeping us in most of the time. With the weather improving for the weekend we were looking forward to getting stuck in when I received a call from my group and due to illness have had to cancel. This means that there is an opportunity to join us this weekend with full boat or spaces available on Saturday coming 7th and Sunday 8th.

Liam Nolan took on and completed the Fastnet to Baltimore swim today in what turned out to be fairly challenging conditions. Onboard Radiance today, the team consisted of pilot Kieran Collins, Feeder and support crew Billy Nolan (Liam’s father) and observer Nathan Timmins.
It was great to see a large crowd on the pier and slipway to welcome Liam back home after battling for an unofficial time of 8 hours 51 minutes and 28 seconds. Congratulations Liam well done.

Arrived in the post ! 😀 over the last couple of years the quality of traces from branded companies have disappointed to say the least so when I spoke with John from AK Watersports, I was excited to try out his mackerel, pollack-cod traces. John makes commercial grade traces and from fist inspection they look the business. I can’t wait to try them out

Radiance is back on the water and we have been fishing the past 3 weekends. We have been getting good catches of mackerel the last two weekends, here is hoping that it’s a good sign for the season ahead. The reefs are fishing very well with huge numbers of good sized pollack around 6-8lbs, with a nice selection of cod, long, coalies , wrasse etc thrown in. We anchored up for a couple of brief spells and had some decent Bullhuss just shy of specimen size with a few conger about also.
We have a busy season ahead, with angling, Fastnet swims, Fastnet trips and whale watching so if you are interested and as availability is limited, it is best to call on 086 3014971

This week we were out on Monday and Tuesday with the Marine Institute. While we did see fish on Monday we didn’t hook up but on Tuesday we did get to tag a 435lb fish with a satellite tag and accelerometer tag. It will be interesting to see the data that comes from these tags.
Today we got back out with another group and we tagged 2 more fine fish measuring in at 597lb and 460lb. Well done lads.

Today was day 5 for us on Bluefin Tuna this season and while it started off slow it came to life with plenty of feeding action around lunchtime. We ended up with 5 hookups and 4 fish tagged ranging from 390lb to 545lb. The weather is going to keep us in for a few days again.

We had the Marine Institute out Wednesday and Thursday looking to put satellite tags on some Bluefin Tuna to gain invaluable scientific data. We hooked 2 fish on Wednesday, getting one Tagged. Thursday we tagged 3 more fish. All fish swam off strong after being tagged. Delighted to play a part.

On Friday evening I put the Tuna gear back onboard Radiance to prepare for the beginning of our 2022 Bluefin Tuna season. Derek, Dave, Dessie, Sean and Colm were booked in for 2 days and we were all looking forward to it. Ben came onboard as crewman . Saturday morning we went through the setups checking and double checking everything, then picked up the lads.
Day one saw us get 3 hook ups, with the first one getting off after 10 mins. The second one also getting off the hook after 13 mins, but third time lucky and we tagged a 97” 589lb beauty.
Day two Sunday the lads Nero to be in early so pressure was on to find life fast, which we did . We were seeing lots of fish but they weren’t interested in taking the hook. We did see a few check out the lures and take a swipe but no hook up. Just when we were taking the final run around a bait ball with thoughts of heading home we hooked up and 27 mins later we had a 98” 604lb alongside, which we quickly tagged and after reviving released and headed back to Baltimore with a happy crew. Thanks lads for putting your trust in Baltimore Angling to get you on the fish.
It was still early and as the weather was changing for the worse we headed back out to get a fish for Ben. Not long after getting back trolling we had an explosive hook up but unfortunately after 9 mins he got off. Time passed and as the light started to fade we were on. This time a nice 78” 300lb . Job done Baltimore Anglings 2022 Season is up and running
