The Burren Farm Experience
You are joining a dynamic duo with husband and wife, Cathal is a 5th Generation farmer he has studied farming aquiring a Green Certificate in Agriculture and has been working on the land for over thirty years since he was a young child being taught his trade by his late father John. I'm Bronagh aka "the wife" recently completed a tour guiding course we are very passionate about this unique area of conservation. Together with our three daughters we are custodiands of the land and endevour to farm with concervation in mind. Farming is intergral to the character and composition of the Burren. The ancient transhumance practice of winter grazing on the rough limestone grasslands has been proven to be critical to the health and diversity of the habitats and species therein.
Our farm is in The Burren National Park, so you will get to see something very spectacular and special never seen by the public before, we have decided to diversify and add an ecotourism aspect to what we do. We have been asked to bring groups and individuals around for years many times and we feel now is the time, so lucky you, you're among the first to see what we have to offer! We are the only working farm in the area open for tours of this kind which gives you an insight into what we do as dry stock beef farmers. You will be warmly welcomed by Cathal and Bronagh at our farmyard. We will bring you for a ride on our tractor trailer with comfy straw bales for seating through our almost 500 acre farm of mixed species-rich grassland, deciduous woodland, hazel scrub and glaciocarst limestone pavemant internationally famous for arctic-alpine and mediterranean plants living side by side which is unique to this area. Passing livestock and many interesting historical remains. We will then take a hike 5km/8km through the National Park to majestic Lough Bunny Lake which is of global importance and the centre of a unique karstic wetland system. All the while being educated about the lands history, what we do as beef farmers and the unique biodiversity of this special area of conservation. Rest and rejuvenate over a rustic picnic taking in the spectacular surroundings and fresh air.
