Wonderful to see a plaque marking the site of Patterson’s Store has been erected on Credit Union House. Patterson’s Store stood proudly on the Southern side of The Market Square from 1812 until it was accidently destroyed by a fire on an August night in 1967. It was demolished shortly afterward and the site was vacant until Credit Union House was built. Please note there are no tours next week. Next tour is scheduled for July 21st. We hope to see you then.

What a transformation Kilrush is undergoing, the cherry pickers and ladders were out in force today as our town entered the final week before the Entente Florale judging. What a credit to all the citizens who are moving mountains to have our town ready. One of the buildings undergoing a little TLC is John O’Shea – the Victorian gem, with its late 19th century Shopfront and original shop fittings all remaining, nothing has changed in over 130 years, apart for the fact it has currently has no stock. Hopefully it will find a bright 'new' future in the not too distance future.

Walking tours this week are on Tuesday & Thursday at 10.30 am from Gleesons. Henry St. €10 per adult, reduced rates for under 16's and students. There is no cycling tour this Wednesday. Hope to you all from a trip into Kilrush's wonderful past

Kilrush Walking Tours finally took off today with our first guests - Tom & Patty from New Jersey. They enjoyed their trip into Kilrush's wonderful past. The walking tours takes place each Tuesday & Thursday at 10.30 from Gleesons, Henry Street, Kilrush throughout June, July & August. Looking forward to welcoming you all. (Please note there will be no tours on July 14 & 16)

This summer we are now launching Kilrush Walking & Cycling Tours during June, July & August. We have two tours - Our Kilrush Walking Tour will take our guests through the streets imparting the history of our heritage market town from its beginnings through the ages visiting all the historic landmarks. An enthralling trip through the ages with a well-informed local historian! The walking tours depart from Gleeson’s, Henry Street at 10.30 every Tuesday and Thursday. Tickets cost €10 for Adults and Under 16’s are €5.

Our second tour is Kilrush & Environs Cycling Tour, takes our guests through the town and beyond. The tours again depart from Gleeson’s, Henry Street at 10.30 every Wednesday. Tickets cost €15 for Adults and Under 16’s are €10. The ticket includes your cycle hire and all safety equipment.

We are nearly all set to launch 'Kilrush Walking Tours'. Our brochure is ready. For June, July & August our Historic Walking Tour will guide you through Kilrush on Tuesday & Thursday morning. On Wednesday morning a Cycle Tour will take you through the town and beyond. Full itinerary and timetable will be posted shortly. The National Famine Commemoration sculpture will now be permanently located on Frances Street at its junction with Tolar Street. This beautiful sculpture was created by Paddy Murray and unveiled at last year's National Famine Commemoration by The President of Ireland Michael D Higgins.
