Freemans Lodge is located on the tip of Loop Head Peninsula on the West Coast of County Clare, close to Doonbeg, Kilkee, Kilrush and Lahinch. The Lodge is an exclusive contemporary house situated on fifteen acres of outstanding scenic beauty with extensive sea frontage and stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean, in an area declared a Special Amenity Area. Rounded and stone faced it is almost invis
ible from the sea. It was architect designed with Atlantic storms in mind and the environment in which it is built. It is a place where you can leave the world behind, commune with nature, walk, unwind and regenerate your energies and your soul. It will refresh, reward and inspire you. There is a wealth of wildlife to enjoy along the cliff walks and two fine beaches on which seals and dolphin can be frequently spotted. One can also view all seaboard traffic up and down the Shannon Estuary. In fact you can see the lights of Ballybunion, County Kerry across the estuary at night. Freeman’s Lodge is built on an isthmus, a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger areas of land. The land once boasted a medieval fortified position and, still boasts a midden and other evidence of occupation today. Surrounding roads are quiet, excellent for walking, cycling and horse riding. A nature watch reveals Dolphin, Shark, Whale, Seal and Sun Fish. The area around the Lodge teems with wildlife, a birdwatcher’s paradise sitting as it does on the direct route of wild birds migrating from the Artic. Careful bird watching reveals native birds such as the Cormorant, Gannet, Greenshank, Kestrel, Egret, Razorbill and Peregrine. Fishing is superb with beach, cliff, inshore and deep sea water finishing on your doorstep. A successful fishing trip can produce an array of fresh fish for the dinner table including Salmon, Cod, Mackerel, Turbot, Hake, Sea Trout and Sea Bass. Alternatively, you could hit the rocks for Periwinkles, Sea Urchins, Mussels, Clams, Lobster and Crab. Boat hire is available locally and very much welcomed by the highly experienced ghillies. Golfing links style can be found less than an hour away at two of the world’s most highly regarded golf courses, Doonbeg’s Trump International Golf Resort and Spa and the Links at Lahinch Golf Club. There are lesser known courses located in Kilkee, Kilrush and Spanish Point. If you feel in the mood for something a little more medieval Dromoland Castle Golf and Leisure Resort is located less than an hour and a half away. At the Freeman’s Lodge you can immerse yourself in the local community with the Loop Head natives, artists from the Arts Foundry, traditional musicians, story tellers and visitors similar to yourself seeking to re-charge their batteries before returning to what some call the ‘real world!’ You can be as much in the real world as you wish or you can be out of it, you decide! There is no landline phone available, but there is mobile and broadband coverage. There are two pubs of welcoming nearby. Both do superb food and music nearly all year round. Accommodation
