The owners Philip Comber and Patricia Cosgrove set about restoring the 120 year old barn about 15 years ago and lived in it for a year as they restored the old cottage bedside it. They now live in the cottage which they recently extended with their little 2 boys Liam and Tiernan and their 2 springer spaniels Ruby and Coco. Situated on a quiet country road between the historic villages of Cong and
Clonbur and the world renowned lakes of Corrib and Mask the barn provides an ideal base for anyone wishing to explore the many delights of the Connemara region. The surrounding area is a walkers paradise with many tracks and trails through woods, over mountains and along the lake shores. Lough Corrib and Lough Mask are considered among the elite wild brown trout lakes in Europe with Corrib also providing some exciting Salmon fishing. Boats are available on request and Philip an experienced gillie is available to guests by prior arrangement. Within minutes of the Barn are the historic villages of Cong and Clonbur. Cong boasts may tourist attractions including Ashford Castle and Cong Abbey and was the filming location for John Ford's 1952 Oscar-winning film, The Quiet Man, featuring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Barry Fitzgerald. Much of the movie was filmed on the grounds of Ashford Castle. The town and castle area has changed very little since 1952, and Cong's connection with the movie makes it a tourist attraction. Cong is also known for its underground streams that connect Lough Corrib with Lough Mask to the north. It was also the home of Sir William Wilde, historian and father to prominent playwright, novelist, poet, and short story writer Oscar Wilde. http://www.congtourism.com
