Havana Cottage and surrounding area is steeped in history and you can learn how a local man, Patrick Dougherty, emigrated from this area from Derry to Philadelphia in 1832, before spending nearly 32 years in Cuba, in the La Habana province, as a railroad engineer during the sugar industry in the mid 1800’s. Patrick never married, but his amazing story turns full circle as he returned back to Clonmany to build his home and live the rest of his days with his family.
