As the Winter Solstice draws near, why not dig into the archives to hear a chat with Prof Muiris O'Sullivan, to discuss the passage tomb at Knockroe in the Lingaun Valley of County Kilkenny.

We discussed Muiris's important excavations of the tomb and what it revealed about Neolithic Ireland, and we looked at the rich heritage of the Lingaun Valley. Much of that heritage is given context by the Lingaun River being a border, one that separates the great hurling rivals of Kilkenny and Tipperary today – but it may have much more ancient roots than that. As well as ancient borders, we discussed folklore, belief and spirituality, how experimental archaeology can reveal new insights into ancient monuments and much more!

This episode of the Amplify Archaeology Podcast is Part 1 of our five-part miniseries on Newgrange and the Winter Solstice.
