New episode of our Amplify Archaeology Podcast!

Ireland’s round towers are one of the most distinctive features of our historic landscapes. But what do we know of these iconic structures, when do they date to, and who built them? In this episode of Amplify Archaeology Podcast, Neil is joined by archaeologist Christiaan Corlett to dig into the story.

Amplify Archaeology Podcast is available on all the usual podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible, and more.

Or you can find the episode, along with show notes and links on our website here:

It's the 4th anniversary of our Newsletter with Tuatha!

Today is something of a landmark for us, as it is our 4th anniversary of our Monument Monday newsletter.

Over the 208(!) editions we've included monuments from all over the island of Ireland. Covering everything from Neolithic tombs, ancient royal centres, early monasteries on remote islands, to mighty medieval castles, battlefields and more!

So instead of focusing on one particular monument this week, I thought we might feature another mysterious and ancient ruin – me!

Today's mail aims to give a bit of a sense of why we started our newsletter, and why I am so committed and passionate about sharing Ireland's incredible archaeological heritage.

The Fingal Fieldnames project is back! Abarta Heritage and Fingal County Council Heritage Officer, Christine Baker are hosting a Fingal Fieldnames Workshop in Carnegie Library, Swords (K67 N5H2), on Wednesday, 26th of March, at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend
The Fingal Fieldnames project seeks to record the unique field names found in Fingal that offer insight into the history of the area
The project was first launched in 2018 and many names have been gathered since then-see https://meitheal.logainm.ie/fingal-fieldnames/
A new phase of the project is now underway with a free training workshop in Sword's Carnegie Library. At the workshop, you'll hear about interesting folklore connected to Fingal’s field names and of the experiences of former volunteers. We’ll also show you how to record field names in your locality and where you can find out more about the story of these names. To find out more about this exciting project or to become a volunteer, visit https://www.fingal.ie/council/service/fingal-fieldnames-project.
