New episode of Amplify Archaeology Podcast!

An elegant historic house, once owned by the famous Guinness Family, proudly stood in part of what is now known as St Anne’s Park. The building was destroyed by fire in the 1940s, before being completely demolished in the 1960s.

However, a dynamic community archaeology project has been underway to help to uncover its story. The dig includes members of the local community who work alongside experienced archaeologists.

Excavation director James Kyle tells us all about it in our latest episode of Amplify Archaeology Podcast!

We were delighted to work on creating this Story Map with Dublin Mountains Partnership and Coillte as part of the Dublin Mountains Archaeology Project. This Story Map provides information about archaeology sites waiting to be explored in the Dublin Uplands.

Dublin Mountains Community Archaeology is an initiative of dlr Heritage Events South Dublin County Council and Dublin Mountains Partnership with support from The Heritage Council and is managed by Archaeology and Built Heritage and us.

Looking for a ? Discover the historic town of Rathangan in County Kildare with this free audio guide, produced in conjunction with Rathangan Tidy Towns.

Rathangan lies on the edge of the vast Bog of Allen and on the banks of the River Slate and the Grand Canal. The town developed in the shadow of a great ringfort, and it has a long and fascinating history with stories about ancient Irish tribes, the Norman conquest and the 1798 rebellion.

We were delighted to work on this publication with Sara Nylund Illustration and Graphics, Professor Jo Brück - UCD School of Archaeology and Dr Damian Shiels - Irish in the American Civil War with support from National Monuments Service - Archaeology. We hope this publication will be useful for anyone interested in this fascinating time period.

We’re delighted to announce the launch of new guidance document 'Researching and Protecting the Archaeological Heritage of the Easter Rising, War of Independence and Civil War' with the support of National Monuments Service funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC).

Written by Prof. Joanna Brück, UCD School of Archaeology, and Dr Damian Shiels, Irish in the American Civil War, designed by Abarta Heritage, the guidance is for anyone interested in learning about the material heritage of Ireland’s revolutionary period including community and heritage groups, and professionals in the planning and heritage sectors.

It sets out the some of the rich research resources now available, considers the benefits and challenges of researching this topic, and explores ways of presenting revolutionary sites and landscapes to the public.
