We count ourselves incredibly blessed to be witnessing these incredible creatures today, the magnificent fin whales. Found off the coast of Ireland, these gentle giants are the second-largest animals on Earth, reaching lengths of up to 27 meters. Ireland’s nutrient-rich waters are a seasonal feeding ground for them, particularly along the south and southwest coasts, where they are often spotted during late summer and autumn. Known for their impressive speed, fin whales can swim up to 37 km/h, earning them the nickname “greyhounds of the sea.”
