The Clarke family travelled in August 2023. They booked a cruise on Princess Cruises

I had the great pleasure of organising a trip to Boston 🌏🛫🚐⛪🏫🌇🦆🦪🏊‍♂🧙‍♀️🎓🧳 for a group of pals from North County Dublin.
They travelled in October 🍂 and from what I've heard they had a wonderful time.

Linda says
"What a great trip to Boston, we had. Beautiful city, with loads to see, not enough hours in the day to see everything. Definitely worth the trip and would definitely recommend a visit to Boston."

They took a Go City Boston pass and made good use of it.
Some of the ladies took a dip on Revere beach, then a few took a trip out to Harvard. As a group they did so much - Boston Duck Tour, they went to Salem dressed as Witches for the day, Diva Royale - Bostons Drag Queen show, Prudential Center, Boston Harbour boat trip, Boston Tea Party and the lovely tea rooms & souvenir shop and they also learned about "Old Ironside".
For a special meal they visited Davio's Back Bay Boston - super restaurant, friendly staff, beautiful food and a great atmosphere.

Every year The Dublin Gas Fitters Social Club travels to a different destination for their annual getaway.
This year they travelled to Costa del Sol and stayed in the Occidental Torremolinos

I just received the following from Vinny Hennessy, he keeps me on my toes looking for new and interesting spots that might suit the group.

"Just to let you know that all went well , it was a brilliant few days and I doubt you will have anything but compliments from all involved, you certainly won’t have any complaints!!

The hotel was brilliant and suited the group perfectly , 7 mins away from airport , we were having a poolside beer by lunchtime on arrival, beautiful pool area and directly on the beach , we couldn’t ask for more 😊

I wouldn’t normally be a fan of half board and would prefer to venture out and find nice restaurants but I found myself dining in every night as the choice and quality of the food served was amazing and the fact that we could have dinner at any time between 7.30 and 10pm meant we were never under pressure , so this offered everyone great value.

Probably one gripe that one or two had was that the rooms were very small but despite their size they were lovely modern bright rooms which were fully serviced every morning on return from breakfast so top class really .

Anyway , many thanks for suggesting this type of trip , as you know it wasn’t our first choice and historically we like the city breaks but in reality the group is not getting any younger so I would certainly not turn down a similar suggestion for next year , it was just what the doctor ordered, it just came and went far too quickly !

Looking forward to it already , thanks for everything as always.

Maureen and Susan worked together for many years.

As a mark of respect the office will remain closed on Monday the 4th of September 2023. So that we can attend Our Dear Friends funeral.

So on Thursday we hired a car 🚗 for the day from beside our hotel.
Great value with full CDW etc for only €70.
We headed to the first and hit the slides hard. Great craic was had. I added €20 splash cash to my wrist band and this well covered lunch 🌭🍟🥤 for the 3 of us.
We had to buy swim shoes 🩴, the ground was melting hot. Reminder to my future self, bring these on all future holidays.
When we'd had our fill of slides we then drove to 🏖🏝. OMG it's stunning, if you ever visit Rhodes, it has to be seen. Completely off the beaten track. Its about 500m crescent shaped beach, surrounded on two sides by mountains and heavily garded by resident mountain goats 🐐🐐🐐. When we arrived we had a cold drink🥤 and then dip in the warm sea.
There are 3 floating watersports courses, ladies offering massage on the beach, parasailing and more.
We drove back to Ixia, to the Belair Hotel. 27km took approx 40mins. Then we had a WELL deserved beer 🍻 or two before we seen the most amazing sunset 🌅

Collette here from beautiful sunny Rhodes. We took a day trip to Symi. We went with TUI and it cost €60pp, well worth it.
We travelled on . The staff were really good and attentive when any passengers became seasick. My only gripe would be the chaotic boarding procedures.
Our tour guide was Paul. A native of Rhodes himself and his parents were natives of Symi. So he was very knowledgeable.
We ate lunch in at the Taverna Nereida, recommended by Paul. Lunch was delicious, I had the famous Symi Shrimp.
We visited and of course purchases were made.
Home made gelato, an old man cleaning his sponges, drinks at the waters edge and a dip in the warm Aegean Sea.
All in all a fabulous day. We were all exhausted but enjoyed it.
I would highly recommend this day trip.

We are so proud to mention the lovely Eitti Scully, a proud member of Dublin Fire Brigade.
Eitti travelled out to Winnipeg, Canada to compete in the World Police and Fires Games to represent Ireland 🇮🇪
She won GOLD 🥇 in the 800m track race 🏃‍♀️ in the 55-59 age category.
What an achievement.
Well done Eitti👏. We are delighted to be part of your journey.

We had 120 Scouts representing Scouting Ireland travel today from Dublin.
They are attending in South Korea.
They were flying via Germany with Lufthansa.
They all arrived very early and there was great excitement in the troops.
Lufthansa and Swissport did a great job jointly this morning, ensuring that the Scouts were checked in efficiently with plenty of extra luggage generously sponsored by the airline.
Wishing the Scouts a safe, memorable and enjoyable jamboree.

So day 3 of our Italian dream began in Florence.
We had another sumptuous breakfast in the beautiful Hotel Bercheilli before checking out. They called a taxi for us which arrived unbelievably quick.
Then to the station, Firenze Santa Maria Novella. We were on a 1230pm train to Pisa. Which arrived exactly on time and took approx 50 minutes to get us back to Pisa.

We took a taxi from Pisa Centrale Station and it took 8 minutes to get to our destination. The Grand Hotel Duomo.
As we approached the hotel we could see the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The taxi left us around the corner from the hotel and again we gave him €20.00.
The hotel is on via Santa Maria which leads directly to the Piazza del Duomo. Here you will find the Tower, Cattedrale di Pisa, Battistero di San Giovanni and the Fontana dei Putti.

The Grand Hotel Duomo is approx 6 minutes walk from the Piazza del Duomo. We were quickly and efficiently checked in by a friendly receptionist.
Unfortunately our rooms weren't ready. So they took our luggage in and we walked up to the Piazza de Duomo.
We got the usual pictures that everyone gets at the Tower, you know the cheesy ones where you're trying to push it over 😂😊

It was a lovely morning but as the day went on it got very wet.
We decided it would be safer to take shelter in a little bottega for a while. So we had a toscan brushcetta with a nice glass of vino, or two 🥂
We needed a little siesta then, so up we went to grab a fews zzz"s. Refreshed we met again at 7pm.
Out onto via Santa Maria and we found a lovely place for dinner. As it was still raining we decided to sit inside, although all the restaurants have outdoor dining under gazebos and most have heaters too.
The meal in Trattoria Toscana dal 1976 Pisa it was very tasty. I had another portion of brushcetta followed by quattro formaggi gnocchi and it was delicious. Then I had a delicious dessert called "cantucci e vin santo" which is almond biscuits served with sweet dessert wine. The biscuits are really crunchy and you dip them in the wine. It is quickly absorbed and unbelievably tasty.

We headed back to the hotel and went up to the Tower Sky Lounge on the 6th floor. It's a beautiful terrace and restaurant with views of the Tower and Cathedral. It's a beautiful spot for a meal or a drink after dinner. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. Although when we first arrived the bar/restaurant manager was pretty gruff. He asked something like, "what do you want". We laughed and said "em a drink, maybe" 😂😂

Next morning we woke early and thankfully it was warm and dry outside. We had a tasty breakfast, not as impressive as we'd had in Florence, but edible nonetheless.

We headed outside and took a left turn and headed towards Piazza dei Cavalieri.
This was the political centre of medieval Pisa and in the oste 1500's became the headquarters to the Order of the Knighrs of St Stephen.
As this is the university quarter there were lots of libraries, students and colleges.
The square is the second main square in Pisa and home to the Palazzo della Caravona and Cosmino I de Medici. The Palazzo is now a centre for higher education that was originally founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1810.
You will also see the Palazzo dell’Orologio which was the scene of Dantes' "Divine Comedy".

After all this educational sight seeing it was time for an aperol and slice of Tuscan pizza.

We then strolled back towards the Piazza del Duomo and into the market area.
We bought the usual bits and pieces - keyrings, cooking ingredients and Christmas baubles, as you do 😄😄
After my sis, Babs, had examined everything in the market we strolled back to our hotel via the Tower.
If you have a chance to visit Florence, then Pisa can easily be done as a daytime. As I've mentioned the journey takes less than one hour and costs only €9.00 ppew.

We dined in Ristorante La Torre to the left of our hotel on via Santa Maria.
All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Especially Jimmy, he is PR for the restaurant and loves the Irish. We dined here on his advice regarding the menu and it did not disappoint.
Everything we ordered was delicious. My main was something they call "fish soup"
It was a tomato based sauce with clams, mussels, shrimp, prawns, squid and large piece of white fish - hake maybe.
Nini, also known as Stefano, is an older gentleman and he was super friendly and also Emiliano.
After a delicious meal and a few bottles of wine we hit the hay at 1030pm.

Next morning at 330am we were off to the airport for our flight home.
The night Porter called us a taxi , it arrived promptly and our journey home began.

I've just returned from a wondeful few days in Florence and Pisa.
We flew to Pisa with Ryanair, 2 hours 20 minutes. Then we made our way to Pisa Centrale Station.
We took a taxi the 6 minute drive, the driver made his disappointment obvious.
I spoke in Italian 😬
'Portami alli stazione dei treni, per favore"
The fare was €17.60 and we gave him €20 and this cheered him up, a little.

The station had 13 platforms with trains constantly arriving and departing to all parts of Italy. Fare was just €9.00pp each way.
The train took just 50 minutes to get to Firenze Santa Maria Novella stazione.

We walked 20 minutes to our hotel via the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella. A beautiful church in the centre of the city.
On arrival at the hotel we were in awe. The hotel is on the riverside with Ponte Vecchio to the left and Ponte Santa Trinita to the right. Stunning location.
We were checked in very quickly and efficiently. The staff are all so friendly, from the reception staff, the bar man, the bellhop and the chamber maids.
The rooms were small but beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. With a supply of shampoo, shower gel and cap, vanity kit, sewing kit and even feminine cleanser.

We threw our bags in, hung up what needed to be hung up and got out to see the hotel. It has a small roof terrace on the 4th floor. We got an aperol spritz, as you do, and headed up to the terrace. It was lovely. There was a wedding taking place in the small church facing the hotel. We had a lovely view from up above.

By now it was nearly 6pm, so we decided to head out for dinner. We had a stroll up to the Ponte Vecchio and around by the Palazzo Vecchio where you will see the replica of Michaelengelo's David. The Piazza della Signoria where you'll find the Palazzo Vecchio is a stunning building and it was the scene of Dan Brown's 'Inferno'.

We found a lovely restaurant and had a lovely meal. Very tasty but small portions.
La Borsa on Borsa Delle Merci. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
We had a fun evening strolling around Florence and stopping along the way for the odd aperol!!

Next morning we were up and enjoyed a beautiful breakfast in the hotel. The breakfast room is tucked away on the 2nd floor. It's a beautiful, opulent room with high ceilings and beautiful furnishings. Lots of fresh produce, replenished regularly and the staff clearing and resetting tables quickly.

We took a walk back to the train station as we had tickets for the hop on hop off bus tour of Florence. The highlight for me was stopping at Piazzalle Michaelangelo. This square is on a hill overlooking Florence on the south side of the Arno. The views are absolutely stunning. There is another replica of David here, this one is copper.

After the bus tour we strolled back to our hotel and had a gelato on the way, definitely something you have to do when in any part of Italy.

Each time you walk through the city you will see something else that leaves you in awe. We took a break in a beautiful little bottega, and had a platter of local meats, cheeses, crostinis with a glass of brunello. Terry ordered an IPA that tasted like lavender water. Don't think he'll try that one again 😂

Off on our travels again via the Cattedrale di Santa Maria dei Fiore and Battistero di San Giovanni. OMG these are just stunning structures in the heart of an amazingly beautiful city.

Time to go for dinner. We found Toto's and what a find??? A restaurant on Borgo Santo Apostoli. A family owned and run set up. The family are passionate about their business and this is obvious with the excellent service and delicious meals they serve. In business 55 years and its easy to see why.
We enjoyed a beautiful meal with delicious wines and fabulous company.

Next morning time to leave this beautiful city. But I needed to see a bit more and headed out for an early stroll on my own, before breakfast. I felt very safe walking by myself.

I can't wait to get back to Florence.

A group of friends from Skerries put their trust in me to arrange their first cruise holiday.
They've just returned from Barcelona.
They sailed on MSC Cruises Grandiosa.

"Oh god Collette, maybe for us the entertainment in the evening on deck 6. Like the street party/entertainment, dancers, singers, every night..they were great... we didn't do half of what we should have done.. 🙈
Staff were all lovely, really helpful, some even much friendlier than others.
Food in restaurant was ok, not fantastic, preferred the buffet, but ate in the restaurant 5 out of 7 nights anyway. Cocktails were great.
We enjoyed prinks on deck 5 with the piano, even though they played the Titanic sinking music on the anniversary 🤣🤣
Pool bar was great to have, very busy though.
Adults bar was nice for relaxing drinks."
