The Waterfall – Sruth in Aghaidh An Aird, The Irish name for the waterfall ‘Sruth in Aghaidh An Aird’ means stream against the height and denotes the fact that during certain weather conditions when the wind blows from the South, the waterfall is blown upward and back over the cliff from which it falls. The waterfall does not flow during periods of dry weather; however, it is particularly spectacular during or immediately after periods of heavy rainfall.

The original Derry Girls 👔🪡

Derry was historically a thriving hub for shirtmaking. This mural, found in the Craft Village, pays tribute to the thousands of Derry girls who walked out of the classroom and into the factory. These women were the backbone of the city, with the local economy relying on the dozens of shirt factories scattered across the city.

The mural nods homage not only to the hard work of the factory girls but, also the everlasting friendships established over the noise of sewing machines 💛

The mural was created by local man, Joe Campbell, and UV Arts C.I.C 🎨

THE GIGANTIC IRISH DEER

The Gigantic Irish Deer (Megaloceros giganteus) also called the giant deer or Irish giant deer, is an extinct species of deer in the genus Megaloceros and is one of the largest deer that ever lived.

The animal was never exclusively Irish – nor, for that matter, was it an elk – but Ireland was the early treasure-house of its fossil skeletons and antlers, impeccably preserved in lake-mud beneath the bogs. It was first recorded as a fossil in 1697 (long before dinosaurs were known), and it featured in fierce debates about extinction and the impact of Noah’s flood.

Lá Fheile Bríd shona gach duine! Happy St Brigid's Day everyone.
Did you know that St. Brigid once wanted to build a convent in place of an existing pagan religious site but did not own the land. She approached the king who refused to give her any. Insisting that even a small piece would do, Brigid pleaded for as much as her cloak would cover. The king looked at her cloak and decided that such a small amount would be no big loss. He agreed and miraculously the cloak grew and grew until it covered many acres, including the land on which she founded the monastery. The king realised he had been fooled but as he had given his word and was impressed with her prowess he relented and gave her the land.
Brigid's first convent started with seven nuns.
