Eamonn Sweeney and his daughter Mo have been sending people over and back to Donegal and Ireland for over 20 years. Sadly lost Eamonn in 2014, but his legacy continues.. He was a proud Donegal man who started this business because he really saw a need for it. Always out for a bargain he thought it was more civilised to speak to an actual person in the process! Was well behaved this past storm, usually the first thing I do is head straight for the coast roads but waited until the worst of it had passed before venturing out.

Even at that it was still crazy to witness the power of the storm battering the coast. Can only imagine what it was like a few hours earlier.

‘Errigal & Little Sister Mackoght’ - Dressed in White 🤍

Errigal Mountain, Dunlewey, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland

Errigal is the tallest mountain in Donegal. A very iconic and symbolic mountain to the county and all its folk. As part of the “Seven Sisters” mountain chain which make up the Derryveagh mountain range, she is the absolute pride of Donegal. With bright white snow flowing down each side like a stunning gown, quite unlike any other mountain in Ireland… well other than her little sister Mackoght as seen on the left off course, also known as Little or Wee Errigal 🗻

In the distant right you can see the beautiful Poisoned Glen & Dunlewey Lough. These are some of the many reasons on why I love to visit this area so often. Errigal being the main attraction of course. Due to fresh snowfall and colourful skies reflecting down, ‘Lady Errigal’ was fair showing off that day. All dressed up in her snow white winter’s dress, she's quite the stunner 🤍

“I can only dream…. but someday”

Falmore, Crohy Head, Mullaghmullan Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland

Many parts of Ireland are surprisingly sparsely populated. Although once you arrive on this little peninsula in west Donegal, all becomes as evident as the nose on your face. It isn’t unusual to find a single cottage surrounded by ten acres of land or more, where there are more cattle than there are inhabitants to be found.

There is not much I can tell you about this little isolated cottage on the rocks near the shore, other than my own thoughts on it. If I had the choice tomorrow to live in a big modern apartment in a bustling city or this simple cottage in the silence of our countryside, then my honest answer would be “keep your city life as I’m staying right here” Don’t get me wrong as there is nothing wrong with city life and millions of folk love living in their cities. It’s just that I’m a true country bumpkin 😄 and enjoy a much slower pace of life.

I spend so much time photographing these Irish cottages but can only dream that someday I may have a little cottage retreat like this of my very own 🙏 Even if only to visit that odd time when my mind needs to destress, and my body needs a good auld rest.

Just imagine waking each morning on this stunning unchanged shore to the sound of crashing waves and sea birds above. Long strolls accompanied by my dog in cool sea breezes and turf fires afterwards to warm our spirits right back up again… pure bliss 💚

💚 “Forty Shades of Green & Violet” 💜

Gap of Mamore overlooking Lenan & Dunaff, Clonmany, Inishowen, County Donegal, Ireland

My father used to take us here as children and we would all look down over these lush fields below. He would tell us that these were the very fields that gave Ireland it’s signature slogan “forty shades of green”. I love this story today as much as I did when hearing it as a child and nowadays visit this very spot to tell my own boys the very same tale.

I recently travelled to this viewing area as fast as I could, in an attempt to capture a photo to show everyone the various “forty shades of green” fields. However, due to me stopping for another sneaky photo in between 🫣 I left myself so late that I actually arrived after the daylight had gone.

I won’t complain though, as the sky suddenly illuminated before me so intensely that it even reflected off the surrounding purple heather petals. I planned and set off in an attempt to capture a photo showing the forty shades of green fields and just when I thought I had failed…. nature “saves the day” and supplied me with forty shades of violet as a bonus 💚💜

Our Story

Eamonn Sweeney and his daughter Mo Sweeney have been sending people over and back to Donegal and Ireland for over 17 years. Our story is not unique. Like many people since the 1950s, Eamonn and his wife Rose moved over to England to find work. They settled in Derbyshire and raised their family in the Chesterfield area. Donegal was always close to their hearts and whenever possible, the whole family would travel over on holiday. Eamonn was a keen fisherman and had a great deal of local knowledge of the area. As he came close to retirement age, he decided to put all this knowledge and enthusiasm for the area to good use and open their Donegal home as a family run bed and breakfast. From here he would encourage visitors to come and fish the plentiful loughs and rivers in the region and started the company ‘Fly Fishing in Donegal’. Through this business he met many individuals like himself - over and back to Donegal whenever they could manage it, taking the car, the family, the dog, the bikes and the canoe! He decided that the only thing for it would be to make it easier for people to book their ferry tickets so that they could visit family and friends and get over more often. He decided to concentrate on getting the most competitive ferry prices around - keeping track of any offers available and saving money wherever possible.
