We love the changiing seasons in Ireland especially Autumn and the showers that it brings. The pot of gold at the end of this beautiful rainbow was radiating such brightness, it almost tempted us to try and find it!

We had a lovely moment during the summer when one of our 14yr old fiddle students from Japan surprised us with her piano playing. Amazing performance from Rio and when she sent us such a lovely review on her return to Japan, we just had to share it with you.
Wonderful playing Rio, Thank you for the experience!

"Since I usually play classical piano, the two weeks were a refreshing and fulfilling experience, as I had the opportunity to try something entirely new: playing the fiddle, an instrument I’ve never been formally trained in, and exploring Irish music, which I had never encountered before. Unlike classical music, where the focus is on faithfully reproducing the sheet music, Irish music, with its freedom for arrangement and ornamentation, was a completely unknown world for me. This experience significantly expanded my understanding of music. I was also exposed to cultural aspects that are unimaginable in Japan—some things were entirely different, while others were surprisingly similar—which broadened my perspective on the world.
Although I went to Ireland for a music study program and had no expectations of improving my language skills, the friendliness of the Irish people gave me many opportunities to converse. By the last day, I found it easier to understand English and respond more smoothly compared to the first day. I also had the chance to perform and explore the city with Japanese musicians, an experience I would rarely have had otherwise.
This was my first time going abroad, and although I had some anxiety before the trip, it turned out to be an incredibly enjoyable and unforgettable two weeks. If I have the chance, I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!"

If you love listening to the birds then no better place than lovely Leitrim. Our garden resonates to the sound of so many different species and we just discovered an excellent app Merlin to help us recognise each and every bird song.
It's free in the App store and you will surely never regret downloading it.

Huge thanks to the sponsors of Carrick Town FC's Gaynor Cup representatives Katie O Brien, Mona Lowe and Caragh Guckian.
The Gaynor Cup is the pre-eminent girls football tournament in Ireland running from 3rd -7th June at the University of Limerick and it's fantastic to have 3 of our girls on the current Sligo Leitrim team. Best of luck to the all the girls and their coaches, one of whom is Carrick Town's Jason O Brien.

We had the pleasure of taking a bunch of Japanese guests on a tour of the Cavan Burren and Northern Ireland this week.
We started the tour at Tubber Mhuire near Dowra where an ancient well combines a unique blend of Pagan and Catholicism spirituality. A hawthorn tree overlooking the well is decked with offerings for sick children. Next up we hit the Cavan Burren and explored the forest with its 10,000 year old field walls and Neolithic tomb. We then meandered along the boardwalks and took in the passage tombs whilst enthralled by the Heather which was in full bloom.
We then headed for Enniskillen where we explored the legacy of the troubles in Northern Ireland visiting both nationalist and unionist housing estates still wrapped in the colours of their tribes. We finished up the tour in the buttermarket in Enniskillen with a delightful late lunch.
It was a most enjoyable day for all!

One of our favourite weeks of the year.

We had such a lovely evening at the The Leitrim Larks 'lend an ear' session. An evening of song, dance and spoken word at Newbridge Old School. Toa Sypher delighted us with several beautiful songs accompanied by Machiko Sarasa on harp both of whom hail from Hiroshima in Japan and are with us for the O'Carolan Harp Festival and Summer School. There was a real eclectic mix of songs from Ireland, Scotland, USA and Japan.
Make sure you catch the session if Leitrim Larks are in your neck of the county, its wonderful!

We had the pleasure of hosting a lovely Swiss trad music band over the Easter holidays. They were keen to add to their repertoire of tunes and develop their trad music skills taking lessons in Guitar, Mandolin, Whistle, Bodhran & Banjo along with band arrangement. They spent the week taking lessons with Junior Davey, Rodney Lancashire, Gerry Harrington and Fiachra Guihen here in Leitrim at our base in Newbridge Old School and had a fantastic learning experience.
They also took in the weekly session at Davitts on a Thursday night which is always a great night of tunes and well worth a visit if you in the area.

We have a bunch of Italian Erasmus students staying with us in Drumkeeran for 20 days in March. They are staying with host families in the countryside and village and attending the local school whilst enjoying the experience of Irish culture.
Last night they took in the weekly Thursday night trad session in Davitts pub and gave us a little taste of their culture. HUP

This year we are hosting teenage students from Japan, Italy, Spain and France and everybody is in agreement, the easiest way to learn English is to chill out on the beach with friends. It's such a beautiful place, such good fun and we can all enjoy the cold water together, Irish style 😀
