Brian Ború - five sails up. Sailing at 6 knots Kilmore Quay to Crosshaven Atlantic Youth Trust Silvery Light Sailing Baltimore Wooden Boat Festival
The late Tony McLoughlin, master shipwright and musician converted Brian Ború from a fishing vessel to a traditional sailing boat with a ketch rig.
Tony was particularly proud of the wheelhouse/saloon he built when converting the boat (the 4th wheelhouse in the boats life).
He designed for 15 people (the capacity of the boat) with enough space for music to be played. He lined it with wood, creating a wonderful acoustic space.
Today at Iur Cinn Fleadh we remember Tony, close to his home territory.
We are fairly sure that he would approve of the way we use his wheelhouse.

The Fleet Meets - for the first time.
Did you know that Ireland has a national Sail Training Fleet? They are all gaff ketches.
Leader is the oldest, built in 1892, a Brixham Trawler based in Newry operated by Silvery Light Sailing.
Ilen, built in 1926 is based in Kinsale operated by Sailing Into Wellness
Brian Ború is the baby of the fleet at 61 years old and is based in Dun Laoghaire operated by Dublin Under Sail.
While each has sailed alongside one of the others over the past 2 years, the three have never been together. For the first time ever they are in the same place at the same time.
This afternoon at 1630 they will depart Dun Laoghaire Marina & Royal Irish Yacht Club together and motor sail in line to the Muglins (near Dalkey). They will then bear away northeastward and sail parallel to each other.
Ilen will be first, followed by Leader and then Brian Ború.
We will post video and pics here.

We were delighted to meet Kilkeel RNLI out on exercise this evening. The Atlantic 85 (B-Class) paced Brian Ború for a while, making great “target practice” on their training exercise.
We are delighted to support RNLI at every opportunity and we have Lifeboat volunteers on our crew panel and some of the volunteer mentors from Sail Training Ireland for Youth Development are also Lifeboat crew.
Live on board Brian Ború.
