Barbara Finigan has lasting memories of watching her two closest friends get married. “Their shared dream was to make their wedding unique and special,” she explains, ”But there was no one in the local area who could help make it happen.” With a background in performance and production, Barbara stepped-up to that challenge. “It all happened very naturally. We chose poems and readings, then the mus

ic and most importantly, their vows.” In the end, everyone agreed it had been a very special ceremony, indeed. “The feedback was incredible!” says Barbara, “From that moment on, I knew I’d found my dream job!”

Within the month, Barbara had embarked on a training course with the Irish Institute of Celebrants. There, she and fellow course mates formed Alternative Weddings Ireland, a group whose common goal is to help couples create the wedding of their dreams. She sailed through her assessment in January 2017 and is now an accredited celebrant. She is fully qualified to help with weddings, vow renewals, naming ceremonies and also funerals. Wedding ceremonies appeal to everyone and couples like to add those special touches that make their celebration personal. This is where Barbara works her magic. She ensures that the little things that matter to a couple’s beliefs, stories and personalities, are included. “The ceremony can be as religious or non-religious as you wish,” she explains, “Anything is possible.”

Those of us who are married might recall how, prior to our wedding day, discussions revolved around venues, catering, dates, rings, clothes and so on. In all likelihood, the ‘heart and soul’ of the day, namely the celebration, was overlooked. Imagine then, having a dedicated professional like Barbara, whose sole task is to help you, the couple, channel energy into that one, very special aspect.

“Ireland is a magical place and there’s a whole lot of mysticism in some of the ancient rites and rituals celebrated here,” says Barbara. “To give you an example, we have the Celtic knot fasting ritual, which is where the term ‘tying the knot’ comes from. Imagine entwining a couple’s hands with ribbons that they’ve chosen for the occasion. Then there’s the language to consider. “I teach modern languages,” says Barbara, “So, if a couple would like to include French, German or Spanish in their ceremony, I can easily do that, too.”

💜Windswept in Ghan House!

💜There were tears and laughs aplenty for today's wedding of Claire and Michael. The weather did not play ball for the outdoor ceremony but we got to enjoy the elegance of the ceremony room in Ghan House instead.

💜It was as always an honour to work with these two in crafting a personal and meaningful ceremony for them.

💜Everyone felt part of the proceedings: from those who were remembered in their absence to those who witnessed their vows and took part in the celebrations.

💜 It was an afternoon full of serendipity for me as I used to teach the musicians and the bride's parents know my parents and remember me as a child.

Just one of the reasons I do what I do. Thank you to Susan and Gary for this review. It did cause a little tear and a lot of joy in my heart. This had all the best bits of a celebrant-led wedding: personality, creativity, fun, emotions, tears and laughter. There wasn’t one guest there who didn’t feel part of every moment. 💜What a truly gorgeous day for these two! The rain was falling but there was only sunshine and love in .

💜FYI Grace was not only on time, she was early. Any delays were due to technical reasons.

💜Their ceremony was fun, personal and full of love, laughter and gratitude.

💜As always, I got to bring the couple and their guests on the journey of their Love Story from the very beginning to the "I dos". There was not a person in the room who did not feel part of their celebration.

💜The couple chose my favourite ritual of the handfasting and will go down as the first couple I've had to tie the knot twice in the same ceremony. They were keen!

Following numerous calls & conversations with friends, suppliers & customers we felt the need to write this post to hopefully put an end to the rumours which seem to be spreading about our business.

We are a small, family run hotel which specialises in hosting weddings & special occasions. We are fully committed to running our hotel as a hotel for our wedding, leisure & corporate guests. We have numerous weddings on our books which are our number one priority. We are committed to investing in, renovating & improving our hotel. This year we will continue our investment by upgrading our Bridal Suite. We have already completed works on all other bedrooms.

With all this in mind, we have no interest in giving our bedrooms to other business. Our rooms are solely for use by our corporate, leisure and wedding guests.

We hope that this reassures those who are thinking of making a booking and those who have already booked with us.

That just married feeling! 🎉🥂Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of holding the space for Niamh and Jon’s legally binding wedding ceremony.

Guests joined them from all over Ireland and Spain. It was important to the couple from day 1 that all their family and friends felt part of the ceremony regardless of language barriers. And I think it’s fair to say the brief was fulfilled and then some. “Inclusive”, “beautiful”, “meaningful” and “personable” were just some of the words the guests shared with me afterwards.

As I shared yesterday, the ceremony encapsulated lots of my great passions - creativity, love, connection, performance, inclusivity and of course, Spanish. ❤️❤️

Wishing you both many years of happiness together in your marriage and thank you for entrusting your wedding to me. This one will stay with me for a long time. 🥂.

I had the honour of performing Dana Maria and Cormac's wedding in the beautiful Carlingford Heritage Centre.

The ceremony began with a beautiful song by the groom as the bride entered the room and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. The couple were joined by family and friends from near and far.

There were beautiful moments reflecting the couple's traditions, beliefs and talents. Nobody who joined you yesterday could fail to be moved by it all.

We go international again! Roberta decided to surprise husband Francesco with a vow renewal and handfasting in Dublin today. The weather smiled on them as the sun came out for the ritual. They tied the knot, exchanged a Claddagh ring and a “Grá” photo frame, which is the Irish word for “love.” Thank you for trusting me with your ceremony.
