International Tourist Guide Day today and in , Liam Silke, Tour Guide and Town Crier leads our Association's complimentary walking tour of Galway city for tour operators and local invitees.
Thanks to The Kings Head pub which provided a course of excellent lunches for our group. 👌

International Tourist Guide Day
International Tourist Guide Day takes place on February 21st and is organised in more than 70 countries around the world each year. The day is dedicated to the career of Tour Guiding and gives people the opportunity to find out what tour guiding involves and the activities associated with the profession.
The theme for this 2024 event is Green Tourism and ties in appropriately with Fáilte Ireland’s focus for the year on Driving Sustainable Development. Tour Guides are in ideal positions to be the guardians of the respective locations and sites visited. This year Guides are encouraged to concentrate on making their visitors more aware of these natural surroundings.
On Wednesday the 21st February, Tour Guide Day aims to showcase the efforts of both native and foreign-language guides to local authorities and those involved in Tourism. In Galway, the Galway Tour Guides Association (GTGA) will host a complimentary walking tour of the city for tour operators and local invitees. The event hopes to raise awareness of the contributions of guides and highlight the vital role of local guides in serving tourists and shaping a positive image of the city and surrounding regions.
Galway Tour Guide and Town Crier, Liam Silke will lead this promotional walk, starting from the Browne Doorway at 11.30am. Find more information on GTGA on our website at www.galwaytourguides.com
